  1. 6. New Approaches to Investigate and Prevent Oxidation of Polypropylene

    Author : Petter Eriksson; KTH; []
    Keywords : oxidation; polypropylene; oxidative spreading; antioxidants; hyperbranched antioxidants;

    Abstract : When employing chemiluminescence to evaluate stabiliserperformance in a polymer, the induction time or the time toreach maximum chemiluminescence intensity is often used. Insuch an experiment the longest part of the experiment isnormally the time before the oxidation starts. READ MORE

  2. 7. Effect of Dietary Antioxidants on Oxidative Stress, Inflammation and Metabolic Factors : Studies in Subjects with Overweight and with Type 2 Diabetes

    Author : Elisabet Rytter; Samar Basu; Bengt Vessby; Anders Sjödin; Helmut Sies; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Antioxidants; supplementation; fruit and vegetables; oxidative stress; isoprostanes; lipid peroxidation; oxidative damage to DNA; glycaemic control; inflammation; overweight; type 2 diabetes; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Nutrition; Nutrition;

    Abstract : Observational studies have indicated that fruit and vegetables, and dietary antioxidants may play an important role in reducing the risk of chronic diseases, potentially by affecting pathogenic mechanisms such as oxidative stress and inflammation. Clinical trials investigating the effects of supplementation with single or a few antioxidants in high doses have, however, shown inconsistent results and thus have not been able to support the observational findings. 3. 8. Antioxidant-Impregnated Polymers / Antioxidant Ability and Interactions with Food

    Author : Carolina Wessling; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Food and drink technology; shelf-life; interactions; packaging; polymers; BHT; antioxidants; a-tocopherol; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Abstract : Interactions between antioxidant-impregnated low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and polypropylene (PP), and oxygen-sensitive foods have been investigated. BHT and a-tocopherol are two antioxidants commonly used in both foods and polymers. In general, BHT was rapidly lost from LDPE film in contact with various foodstuffs. READ MORE

  4. 9. Chromatography and extraction techniques for new evaluation methods of polyolefins long-term performance

    Author : Lina Burman; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Marek Kowalczuk; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical engineering; polymer; chromatographic fingerprinting; gas-chromatography – mass spectrometry; GC-MS; degradable polyethylene; prooxidant systems; chemiluminescence; oxidation; degradation mechanisms; accelerated ageing; antioxidants; transformation products; microwave assisted extraction; MAE; solid-phase microextraction; SPME; volatiles; solid phase extraction; SPE; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Chromatography and extraction techniques, and also chemiluminescence have been utilized to develop new rapid and informative tools in the evaluation of long-term properties and environmental effects of polymeric materials. Methods were developed for classification of materials and for early and rapid degradation detection. READ MORE

  5. 10. Antioxidative Properties of Herring (Clupea harengus) Press Juice in Food, In Vitro and In Vivo Model Systems

    Author : Thippeswamy Sannaveerappa; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; antioxidants; monocytes; washed cod mince; Clupea harengus; LDL oxidation; press juice; oxidation; ORAC; hemoglobin; alpha-tocopherol; herring; in vitro digestion.;

    Abstract : Some species like herring (Clupea harengus) are currently under-utilized due to their small size, dark colour and susceptibility to lipid oxidation. Our hypothesis has been that the high susceptibility of herring to oxidation makes it well equipped with natural antioxidants, both fat and water soluble ones. READ MORE
