1. Apolipoprotein A-I in glucose metabolism and amyloidosis
Abstract : The role of Apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I), the main protein component of HDL, in cholesterol transport and metabolism is well known and has been studied for more than four decades. More recently, ApoA-I protein has been shown to also have a positive role in glucose control by both stimulation of glucose uptake by muscles and by increasing glucose-stimulated pancreatic insulin secretion. 2. Biophysical Studies of Apolipoprotein A-IM and a Partitioning study
Abstract : The major part of this thesis deals with the similarities and differences in some biophysical properties of apolipoprotein A-I (apo A-I) and the molecular variant apolipoprotein A-IMilano (apo A-IM), and the influence on lipid binding. A model compound partitioning study has also been performed. READ MORE

3. Studies on the assembly and secretion of apolipoprotein B containing lipoproteins
Abstract : Lipoproteins are water-soluble particles of lipids and proteins, which deliver water-insoluble lipids from intestine or liver to target tissues where the lipids are used as fuel or storage. Lipoproteins consist of a core of hydrophobic lipids surrounded by an amphipatic monolayer of polar lipids and specific proteins, apolipoproteins. READ MORE

4. Mechanisms behind the lipid-lowering effects of ACTH - Studies in different experimental models
Abstract : Abstract Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) has strong and direct lipid-lowering effects in man. All apoB-containing lipoproteins, i.e. VLDL, LDL, Lp(a), are reduced by 25-30%. READ MORE

5. Aspects of the regulation of human sperm motility
Abstract : In this thesis I address some of the possible causes for oligozoospermia and low sperm motility, two factors that, singly or in combination, are often seen in cases of male subfertility. In the first study we evaluated the effect on human spermatozoa of the toxicity of compounds present in diesel exhaust. READ MORE
