16. Towards Energy-Efficient Drinking Water Production using Biomimicry
Abstract : Water is a prerequisite for life and we therefore need pure drinking water to survive. Yet there are more than half a billion people that do not have access to pure drinking water. Water treatment can be performed in many different ways, one of the most commonly used being filtration. READ MORE

17. Major Intrinsic Proteins - Structure, function, interactions
Abstract : Major intrinsic proteins, also referred to as aquaporins (AQPs) are localized in membranes of all domains of life to increase the permeability to water or other small, polar molecules. Several monophyletic groups can be discerned in this large and divergent protein superfamily. READ MORE

18. Development of Surface-Based Methods for Studies of Non-Electrolyte Membrane Transport
Abstract : Membrane-transport proteins are a diverse family of proteins that all span the cell membrane where they control the transfer of nutrients, metabolites and ions into and out of the cell. Due to their vital role for the function of cells, reliable methods, preferably with high-throughput capacity, to study this class of proteins are essential in fundamental studies as well as in discovery and development of new drugs. 19. Regulation of glycerol efflux in adipocytes. Structural and functional studies of the glycerol channel aquaporin 7
Abstract : Glycerol levels in adipocytes depend on the lipolysis, the hydrolysis of triglycerides into glycerol and free fatty acids, and the efflux of glycerol across the plasma membrane through glycerol channels. The aims of this work were to investigate how glycerol levels are regulated on a molecular level by PLIN1, a major lipid droplet-associated protein and a key regulator of the lipolysis by scaffolding for lipolytic proteins on the lipid droplet. 20. Aquaporin homologues in Norway spruce (Picea abies)
Abstract : The recent discovery of aquaporins - proteins that mediate bidirectional passage of water over membranes - provides a molecular basis for the underlying processes in plant water relations. In plants, aquaporins are found in plasma membranes and in vacuolar membranes (tonoplasts) and are suggested to participate in dynamic operations such as cell elongation, osmotic regulation, and long-distance transport.
