  1. 1. Aqueous Solutions as seen through an Electron Spectrometer Surface Structure, Hydration Motifs and Ultrafast Charge Delocalization Dynamics

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Niklas Ottosson; Uppsala universitet.; [2011]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water; Aqueous solutions; Ions; Molecular Hydration; Electron dynamics; Atmospheric Chemistry; Hydrolysis; Acid-Base Chemistry; Interatomic Coulombic Decay; ICD; Liquid Micro-Jet; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; XPS; Auger Electron Spectroscopy; AES; MAX-lab; BESSY; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : In spite of their high abundance and importance, aqueous systems are enigmatic on the microscopic scale. In order to obtain information about their geometrical and electronic structure, simple aqueous solutions have been studied experimentally by photo- and Auger electron spectroscopy using the novel liquid micro-jet technique in conjunction with synchrotron radiation. 2. 2. Thermophysical Properties of Aqueous Solutions Used as Secondary Working Fluids

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Åke Melinder; KTH.; [2007]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Secondary working fluids; secondary refrigerants; indirect systems; aqueous solutions; ice slurry; thermophysical properties; freezing point; density; viscosity; specific heat; thermal conductivity; TECHNOLOGY Engineering mechanics Mechanical and thermal engineering; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk mekanik Mekanisk och termisk energiteknik;

    Abstract : Secondary working fluids (secondary refrigerants, heat transfer fluids, antifreezes, brines) have long been used in various indirect re-frigeration and heat pump systems. Aqueous solutions (water solu-tions) have long been used as single phase (liquid only) secondary working fluids for cooling in supermarkets, ice rinks, heat recovery systems, heat pumps and other applications. 3. 3. Molecular Interaction in Aqueous Solutions Effects of Temperature and Solutes on Surface Structure and Hydrogen Bonding in Water

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Clara-Magdalena Saak; Uppsala universitet.; [2019]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Intermolecular forces in liquids can give rise to complex emergent structures, particularly in water, where hydrogen bonding causes the formation of extended networks, and surfaces, where intermolecular structures can be distinctly different from the bulk, leading to unique properties and behaviours. While such structures have been studied in detail, it is still relatively unknown how such structures respond and adapt to external changes to their environment. READ MORE

  4. 4. Probing unoccupied electronic states in aqueous solutions

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Fysikum

    Author : Lars-Åke Näslund; Stockholms universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; x-ray absorption; x-ray absorption spectroscopy; XAS; NEXAFS; water; liquid water; aqueous solution; hydrogen bond; hydrogen bond network; local geometry; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik;

    Abstract : Water is one of the most common compounds on earth and is essential for all biological activities. Water has, however, been a mystery for many years due to the large number of unusual chemical and physical properties, e.g. decreased volume during melting and maximum density at 4 °C. READ MORE

    Abstract : The surface behavior of biologically or atmospherically relevant chemical compounds in aqueous solution has been studied using surface-sensitive X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The aim is to provide information on the molecular-scale composition and distribution of solutes in the surface region of aqueous solutions. READ MORE
