  1. 16. Interactions in aqueous salt solutions : Atomistic modelling versus experiment

    Author : Vidar Aspelin; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; statistisk mekanik; molekylär modellering; MD simuleringar; MC simuleringar; statistical mechanics; molecular simulation; MD simulations; MC simulations; Kirkwood-Buff theory; Hofmeister series;

    Abstract : The research in this thesis investigates how atoms and molecules constituting aqueous salt solutions interact using computational approaches, namely Monte Carlo simulations and molecular dynamics simulations. In the first paper, an atomistic model was developed for aqueous solutions of sodium thiocyanate and potassium thiocyanate (NaSCN and KSCN). READ MORE

  2. 17. POLYPEPTIDES - STRUCTURES AND INTERACTIONS IN MONOLAYERS AND AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS

    Author : Helen Sjögren; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; tyrosine ; co-poly-L lysine; phenylalanine ; co-poly-L- lysine; poly-L-glutamate; poly-L-lysine; poly-L-valine; poly-L-isoleucine; poly-gamma-methyl-L-glutamate; poly-L-leucine; monolayer; Langmuir-Blodgett film; CD spectroscopy; random coil; alpha-helix; surfactant stabilisation; polypeptide; polyamino acid;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis work is to understand and be able to control polypeptide conformation and interactions at interfaces and in solution by changing the solution conditions. For this purpose simple model polypeptides, so-called polyamino acids, have been investigated at the air-liquid interface, as well as in aqueous solutions. READ MORE

  3. 18. Extraction of Metal Values : Thermodynamics of Electrolyte Solutions and Molten Salts Extraction Process

    Author : Xinlei Ge; Seshadri Seetharaman; Katsunori Yamaguchi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrolyte solutions; activity coefficient; osmotic coefficient; freezing point depression; boiling point elevation; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Over the past centuries, a number of process routes for extraction of metal values from an ore or other resources have been developed. These can generally be classifiedinto pyrometallurgical, hydrometallurgical or electrometallurgical routes. READ MORE

  4. 19. Ozone chemistry in aqueous solution : ozone decomposition and stabilisation

    Author : Margareta Eriksson; Lars Kloo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Ozone is used in many applications in the industry as an oxidising agent for example for bleaching and sterilisation. The decomposition of ozone in aqueous solutions is complex, and is affected by many properties such as, pH, temperature and substances present in the water. READ MORE

  5. 20. Association Phenomena in Aqueous Solutions of Surfactants and Hydrophobically Modified Polymers

    Author : Susanne Nilsson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-diffusion; rheology; cellulose ethers; associating polymers; polymer-surfactant interactions; polymer network; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry;

    Abstract : Interactions between ionic surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate and dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride) and nonionic polymers ((hydroxyethyl)cellulose, ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose and their hydrophobically modified analogous) have been studied by means of rheology, pulsed field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG NMR), time-resolved fluorescence quenching (TRFQ), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM). In all experiments surfactants have been added in various amounts to polymer solutions at fixed concentrations. READ MORE
