21. Sequence evolution in a chromosomal region of Arabidopsis thaliana
Abstract : Recently there has been a lot of interest in the use of liknage disequilibrium (LD) in genome wide scans for new genes, so called association mapping. Of crucial importance to a genome wide scan for associations between genetic markers and the trait of interest is the extent of LD, as it determines both how closely a trait can be mapped and also how many markers is needed to map it. 22. Ecology and evolution of local adaptation in Arabidopsis thaliana
Abstract : In this thesis, I investigate the ecological genetics of local adaptation in the annual herb Arabidopsis thaliana with the aim to identify key traits, agents of selection, and genomic regions contributing to adaptive differentiation. The thesis focuses on adaptive differentiation in timing of germination and seed dormancy between populations located close to the southern and northern range margins in Europe. READ MORE

23. The chloroplast talks : Insights into the language of the chloroplast in Arabidopsis
Abstract : The chloroplast originates from an endosymbiotic event 1.5 billion years ago, when a free living photosynthetic bacteria was engulfed by a eukaryotic host. The chloroplastic genome has through evolution lost many genes to the nuclear genome of the host. READ MORE

24. Significance of hydrolytic enzymes expressed during xylem cell death
Abstract : Xylem is an inherent feature of all vascular plants and functions in water transport and mechanical support. In order to efficiently transport water, xylem cells are reinforced by secondary walls before they undergo programmed cell death and their cell contents are removed by autolysis to create a hollow tube. 25. Plasma Membrane Proteomics and Functional Characterization & Expression Profiling of Plant Aquaporins
Abstract : In order to identify integral and peripheral proteins associated with the plasma membrane (PM), highly purified Arabidopsis PMs were analyzed by mass spectrometry. In total, 238 putative PM proteins were identified, of which 114 were predicted to have transmembrane domains or to be PM-anchored. READ MORE
