1. Impact of Rossby waves on ozone distribution and dynamics of the stratosphere and troposphere
Abstract : Several physical mechanisms concerning the impact of Rossby waves on ozone distribution and circulation in the stratosphere and troposphere are studied in the thesis.Summertime total ozone variability over Middle Asia and Northern Scandinavia shows similar wave-like behaviour with typical periods of 10-20 days and amplitudes of 20-50 Dobson units. 2. Dynamics and Variability of the Circulation in the North-Atlantic Subpolar Seas
Abstract : This thesis deals with the dynamics and circulation in the northern North Atlantic and the Nordic Seas, processes of crucial importance for the mild climate of Scandinavia and Northern Europe. High-resolution ADCP scans of currents from Greenland to Scotland in the top 400 m demonstrate that the Reykjanes Ridge is a very effective separator of flow towards the Nordic and Labrador Seas, respectively. 3. Hydrological Seasonal Forecasting
Abstract : In Sweden, almost half of the electricity produced comes from hydropower. However, the amount of water in the reservoir catchments is not evenly distributed throughout the year. During the colder months, precipitation usually falls as snow and accumulates into a snowpack. READ MORE

4. The sensitivity of Swedish alpine lakes to hydro-climatic changes during the Late Holocene
Abstract : The thesis objective is to use lake sediments to investigate the relationships between chironomids, as proxy for temperature, and δ18O and minerogenic in-wash, as precipitation proxies, in northern Sweden during the Late Holocene. Three lakes along a N–S transect in the Scandes were studied using biological, geochemical and physical sediment properties, together with numerical methods. READ MORE

5. Remote sensing phenology at European northern latitudes - From ground spectral towers to satellites
Abstract : Plant phenology exerts major influences on carbon, water, and energy exchanges between atmosphere and ecosystems, provides feedbacks to climate, and affects ecosystem functioning and services. Great efforts have been spent in studying plant phenology over the past decades, but there are still large uncertainties and disputations in phenology estimation, trends, and its climate sensitivities.
