  1. 1. Phase transformation and stability studies of the Zr-H system

    Author : Tuerdi Maimaitiyili; Lars Hallstadius; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Zirconium hydride; synchrotron X-ray diffraction; Nuclear materials; phase transformation; in-situ hydrogen charging; hydrogen related degradation; neutron diffraction; powder diffraction; Rietveld analysis; γ-ZrH; hydrogen embrittlement; zirconium hydride; γ-ZrH; synchrotron X-ray diffraction; neutron diffraction; hydrogen charging; in situ phase transformation; hydrogen embrittlement; hydrogen induced degradation;

    Abstract : Zirconium alloys are widely used in the nuclear industry because of their high strength, good corrosion resistance and low neutron absorption cross-section. Zirconium has a strong affinity for hydrogen, however, and if hydrogen concentration builds up, the material will gradually degrade. READ MORE

  2. 2. Study of pyrolysis and gasification of biomass from the self-organization perspective

    Author : Aliaksandr Alevanau; Ersson Mikael; Weihong Yang; Pär Jönsson; Sylwester Kalisz; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pyrolisys; pellets; hydrogen; gasification; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the analysis of kinetics of i) low-temperature pyrolysis of gaseous hydrocarbons, ii) high-temperature steam gasification of char of wood pellets (>700oC), iii) high temperature pyrolysis of straw pellets in an atmosphere of argon and steam, and iv) high temperature pyrolysis of slices of transversally cut wooden sticks. The results of the kinetic measurements in the high-temperature cases are approximated using a least-square based optimization software, which was specially developed to analyse kinetics prone for deviation from the Arrhenius law. 3. 3. Radiation induced corrosion of copper

    Author : Åsa Björkbacka; Mats Jonsson; Christofer Leygraf; Mehran Mostafavi; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Corrosion; oxidation; copper; copper oxide; gamma radiation; radiolysis; hydrogen peroxide; hydroxyl radical; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The process of radiation induced corrosion of copper is not well understood. The most obvious situation where the knowledge of this process is crucial is in a deep repository for high level spent nuclear fuel where the fuel will be sealed inside copper canisters. READ MORE

  4. 4. Growth and characterization of SiC and GaN

    Author : Rafal Ciechonski; Erik Janzén; Sebastian Lourdudoss; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SiC; GaN; Deep level transient spectroscopy; Minority Carrier Transient Spectroscopy; Hall effect; Cathodoluminescence; Scanning electron microscopy; Atomic Force microscopy; sublimation growth; MOCVD; heterostructures; High Electron Mobility transistor; point defects; Material physics with surface physics; Materialfysik med ytfysik;

    Abstract : At present, focus of the SiC crystal growth development is on improving the crystalline quality without polytype inclusions, micropipes and the occurrence of extended defects. The purity of the grown material, as well as intentional doping must be well controlled and the processes understood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Structural investigations of some ternary metal hydrides

    Author : Ewa Rönnebro; Gary Sandrock; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; strukturkemi; Structural Chemistry;

    Abstract : This work was undertaken with the intention of describing the metal atom environment of hydrogen in a selection of ternary metal hydrides that could be of interest as hydrogen sorption materials. Mainly X-ray and neutron diffraction techniques were used for the purpose. READ MORE
