  1. 1. Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy : Is it right?

    Author : Meriam Åström Aneq; Eva Nylander; Jan Engvall; Maria Eriksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is an inherited heart disease, where sudden cardiac death in young seemingly healthy persons may be the first symptom. There is a need for more sensitive and accurate diagnostic methods to detect signs of disease, at an early stage and in relatives of affected individuals. READ MORE

  2. 2. Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy : Genetic and Electrocardiographic Aspects on Risk of Ventricular Arrhythmia and Diagnosis

    Author : Anneli Svensson; Cecilia Gunnarsson; Pyotr Platonov; Lars O. Karlsson; Perry M. Elliott; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Introduction: ARVC (Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy) is a heritable rare disease of the heart muscle, primarily affecting the right ventricle, that may cause arrhythmias and heart failure.Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to study various aspects of genetic information and electrocardiography (ECG), for their use in diagnosis and risk evaluation in ARVC. 3. 3. Novel approaches using electrocardiographic imaging for early detection of ARVC in patients and relatives and symptoms preceding sudden death

    Author : Varvara Kommata; Carina Blomström-Lundqvist; Elena Sciaraffia; Domenico Corrado; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy; diagnosis; gene carriers; body surface mapping; electrocardiographic imaging; sudden cardiac death; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is an inherited disease of the myocardium, predominantly affecting the right ventricle (RV). Arrhythmias are common among patients with the disease and Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) can occur even in early stages. READ MORE

  4. 4. Sudden Cardiac death in Swedish orienteers

    Author : Lars Wesslén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; sudden cardiac death; orienteers; myocarditis; arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Abstract : An accumulation of sudden unexpected cardiac deaths (SUCD) occurred in young Swedish orienteers, most of whom were elite athletes. From 1979 to 1992 the incidence in 18 to 34 year old male elite orienteers ranked on the national level the same year as death was calculated to 30 (per 100,000), which represents a 20 to 40 fold increase from the expected rate. 5. 5. Cardiac morphology and dynamics in Swedish elite orienteers : Evaluation of the right and left ventricle by two-dimensional and doppler echocardiography

    Author : Egil Henriksen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Echocardiography; sudden unexpected death in young orienteers; right and left ventricular measurements; Doppler echocardiography in athletes; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Physiology; klinisk fysiologi;

    Abstract : Background. Between 1979 and 1992, 16 (15 males and 1 female) sudden unexpected cardiac deaths(SUCD) were reported in Swedish orienteers. Compared with previous reports in young athletes there was a 10- to 100-fold increase in the sudden death rate in young male elite orienteers during this period. The mean age was 25 years (range 18-32 years). READ MORE
