  1. 21. Effects of arsenic trioxide and hypoxia in multidrug-resistant neuroblastoma

    Author : Jenny Karlsson; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk biologi; Clinical biology; neuroblastoma; multidrug resistance; hypoxia; glucose-deficiency; cell death; Bax; Apoptosis; arsenic trioxide;

    Abstract : Neuroblastoma is a childhood tumour derived from the sympathetic nervous system. Although most children with neuroblastoma initially respond to treatment, approximately 50% of these patients relapse with multidrug-resistant tumours. Arsenic trioxide (As2O3) has been used for centuries to treat different clinical disorders including malignancies. READ MORE

  2. 22. Low-Coordinate Organopnictogens : Synthesis and Optoelectronic properties

    Author : Muhammad Anwar Shameem; Andreas Orthaber; Roland Christian Fischer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pnictogen; phosphorus; arsenic; phosphaalkenes; arsaalkenes; phospholes; arsoles; alkynes; π-conjugation; PAHs; Fullerene-C60; sumanene; truxene; organic electronics;

    Abstract : This thesis work is based on the development of novel organopnictogen compounds and the exploration of their potential applications in organic electronics. In particular, incorporation of phosphorus and arsenic into π-conjugated systems is known to modify the optoelectronic properties. READ MORE

  3. 23. Arsenic in Alluvial Aquifers in the Meghna Basin, Southeastern Bangladesh : Hydrogeological and Geochemical Characterisation

    Author : Md. Aziz Hasan; Prosun Bhattacharya; William Burgess; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Alluvial aquifer; groundwater; arsenic mobilisation; geology; Meghna basin; Bangladesh; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract :  Elevated levels of arsenic (As) in Bangladesh groundwater has emerged as a massive calamity exposing a large population to the risk of As toxicity from drinking water sources and agricultural products. Holocene alluvial aquifers in the delta- and flood-plains of the Ganges-Brahmaputra- Meghna (GBM) river systems are severely affected by high levels of As in groundwater. READ MORE

  4. 24. Peat Coated with Iron Oxides : Purification of Metal(loid)-Contaminated Water and Treatment of the Spent Adsorbent

    Author : Alfreda Kasiuliene; Jurate Kumpiene; Ivan Carabante; Prosun Bhattacharya; Luke Beesly; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; iron-peat; adsorption; arsenic; metals; combustion; hydrothermal carbonisation; landfilling; Avfallsteknik; Waste Science and Technology;

    Abstract : In Sweden due to the industrial activities, such as wood impregnation, multiple point sources of arsenic (As) contamination in soil and water bodies are scattered over the country. Metals, such as chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd) or zinc (Zn) at varying concentrations are usually present as well. READ MORE

  5. 25. Water treatment using cryogel-based adsorbents - Targeting environmental pollutants at low concentrations

    Author : Linda Önnby; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adsorption; cryogels; nanoparticles; arsenic; cadmium; water treatment; composites;

    Abstract : The lack of safe, clean water is strongly linked to poverty, underdevelopment and poor health. Water is needed not only to sustain life, but to produce food and in industrial processes. Anthropogenic pollution and natural events can jeopardize access to safe water. READ MORE
