  1. 1. Ultrasonic Methods for 2D Arterial Wall Movement Measurements

    Author : Magnus Cinthio; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tissue Doppler imaging; Cardiovascular system; Diagnostik; Diagnostics; Kardiovaskulära systemet; arteries; ultrasound; shear stress; axial movement; radial movement; Arterial distension; Arterial lumen diameter; PWV; Arterial longitudinal movement; pulse-wave velocity;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular diseases constitute the major cause of morbidity and mortality in the Western World. To increase our knowledge of cardiovascular diseases, it is important to find methods, preferably non-invasive ones, to study very early manifestations of vascular disease. READ MORE

  2. 2. Distensibility in Arteries, Arterioles and Veins in Humans : Adaptation to Intermittent or Prolonged Change in Regional Intravascular Pressure

    Author : Roger Kölegård; Ola Eiken; Toste Länne; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arterial stiffness; venous distensibility; venous flow characteristics; bedrest; pressure training; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The present series of in vivo experiments in healthy subjects, were performed to investigate wall stiffness in peripheral vessels and how this modality adapts to iterative increments or sustained reductions in local intravascular pressures. Vascular stiffness was measured as changes in arterial and venous diameters, and in arterial flow, during graded increments in distending pressures in the vasculature of an arm or a lower leg. 3. 3. Conduits in coronary artery bypass grafting surgery : Saphenous vein, radial and internal thoracic arteries

    Author : Mats Dreifaldt; Domingos Souza; Lars Norgren; Mats G. Karlsson; Michael R. Dashwood; Anders Jeppson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac surgery; Coronary artery bypass; Saphenous vein; Radial artery; Internal thoracic artery; Vasa vasorum; Nitric oxide; Graft patency; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : A novel technique for saphenous vein (SV) graft harvesting, the No-touch technique (NT), has been developed at the Dept. of Cardiovascular surgery, Örebro University hospital. With NT the SV is harvested with a pedicle of surrounding tissue. This avoids graft spasm and eliminates the need for distension. READ MORE
