  1. 1. Assessment of the lifetime of district heating pipes

    Author : Alberto Vega; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; FTIR; rigid polyurethane foam; artificial ageing; {District heating pipes; natural ageing; degradation mechanisms; mechanical performance;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the degradation and assessment of the lifetime of district heating pipes, where accelerated ageing is used to study the degradation in a short time frame. The project was divided into four interrelated parts. READ MORE

  2. 2. Flow-induced Surface Defects and Ageing Behaviour of Injection-moulded Polymers

    Author : Giovanna Iannuzzi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PP; surface defects; flow marks tiger stripes ; ageing; Injection moulding; ABS; rheological properties; degradation; surface topography; discolouration;

    Abstract : Injection moulding is one of the most commonly used manufacturing methods for the production of polymer-based components such as car bumpers and other automotive details. The surface appearance of these products is of great importance since it is directly connected to the perceived quality. READ MORE

  3. 3. Influence of Ageing on Material Properties at Interfaces in Composite Insulators

    Author : Johan Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; composite insulators; ageing; silicone rubber; salt fog test; Outdoor insulation; inclined plane test; interfaces;

    Abstract : High quality of internal interfaces in composite insulators for high voltage applications is necessary for securing durability of their functionality. Weak macroscopic interfaces between the glass fibre reinforced (FRP) epoxy core and the silicone rubber (SIR) housing, such as spots with reduced bonding or a loss of the adhesion as well as presence of foreign contaminants, can appear to have an accelerating effect on the evolution of ageing processes, though it may take years before the first signs of processes endangering the insulator function appear. 4. 4. Heat treatment of Al-Si-Cu-Mg casting alloys

    Author : Emma Sjölander; Salem Seifeddine; Ingvar Svensson; Sten Johansson; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cast aluminium alloys; Heat treatment; Solution treatment; Artificial ageing; Tensile properties; Plastic deformation; Microstructure; Modelling;

    Abstract : Environmental savings can be made by increasing the use of aluminium alloys in the automotive industry as the vehicles can be made lighter. Increasing the knowledge about the heat treatment process is one task in the direction towards this goal. The aim of this work is to investigate and model the heat treatment process for Al-Si casting alloys. READ MORE

  5. 5. Deformation and Fatigue Behaviour of Aluminium Alloys for High Specific Power IC Engine Applications

    Author : Elanghovan Natesan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cylinder head; aluminium; constitutive models; thermo-mechanical fatigue; fatigue; ageing; mechanical behaviour; A356;

    Abstract : The development towards higher specific power and lower displacement engines in recent years has placed increasingly high thermal loads on the internal combustion engine materials. Further, the advent of hybrid power trains placing higher demands on quick starts and a rapid approach to maximum power necessitates the automotive industry to move towards a more robust computational thermo-mechanical fatigue life prediction methodology to develop reliable engines and reduce developmental costs.
