  1. 21. Insight into Catalytic Intermediates Relevant for Water Splitting

    Author : Mohammad Mirmohades; Leif Hammarström; Reiner Lomoth; Sascha Ott; Christopher Pickett; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Catalysis; Artificial photosynthesis; Molecular biomimetics; Chemistry with specialization in Physical Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot fysikalisk kemi; Kemi med inriktning mot kemisk fysik; Chemistry with specialization in Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : Catalysis is an important part of chemistry. This is also reflected in the chemical industry where 85-90 % of all products are made catalytically. Also nature employs catalysts, i.e. READ MORE

  2. 22. Polarization portraits of lightharvesting antennas: from single molecule spectroscopy to imaging

    Author : Rafael Camacho Dejay; Kemisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Energy transfer; Single molecule spectroscopy; Exciton; Fluorescence microscopy; Fluorescence polarization; Light-harvesting; Chromophore; Conjugated Polymer; Photosynthesis;

    Abstract : Multichromophoric systems are very important in photosynthesis and any device that uses solar energy for its operation. This is because multichromophoric light-harvesting antennas are responsible for the absorption of light and the efficient transfer of the absorbed energy toward distinct places where it is to be used or stored. 3. 23. In Search of the Holy Grail of Photoelectrochemistry : A Study of Thin Film Electrodes for Solar Hydrogen Generation

    Author : Torbjörn Lindgren; Sten-Eric Lindquist; Claes-Göran Granqvist; Bengt Kasemo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; photoelectrochemistry; watersplitting; artificial photosynthesis; hydrogen; thin film; nanostructured; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Hydrogen is a wanted energy carrier in a future society less dependent of fossil fuels. This thesis investigates the possibilities of using solar energy to convert water into hydrogen and oxygen, so called artificial photosynthesis. READ MORE

  4. 24. Mononuclear Ruthenium Complexes that Catalyze Water to Dioxgen Oxidation

    Author : Lianpeng Tong; Licheng Sun; Randolph Thummel; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ruthenium complex; Homogeneous catalysis; Water oxidation; O2 evolution; anionic ligand; Molecular catalyst; Electrocatalysis; Kinetics; Artificial photosynthesis; Light-driven; Immobilization of catalyst;

    Abstract : The theme of this thesis is the development of mononuclear Ru-based complexes that are capable of catalyzing the water oxidation (or O2-evolving) reaction, e.g. 2 H2O → O2 + 4 H+ + 4 e−. Several families of mononuclear Ru water oxidation catalysts were designed and prepared. READ MORE

  5. 25. Excited State Processes in Solar Energy Materials

    Author : Tomas Österman; Kemisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solar cells; Conjugated polymers; Charge transfer state; Time-resolved spectroscopy; Fluorescence; Artificial Photosynthesis; Bis-tridentate ruthenium II -complexes; Density functional theory; Quantum chemistry.;

    Abstract : This dissertation covers studies of excited state processes in two types of solar energy materials: alternating polyfluorene polymers and their blends with fullerenes in the active layer of plastic solar cells, and bis-tridentate RuII-polypyridyl complexes to be used as sensitizer in systems for artificial photosynthesis. The polymer:fullerene blends were studied by transient absorption and time-resolved fluorescence measurements in order to investigate the role of the charge transfer (CT) state in charge formation.
