  1. 1. Time-resolved Structural and Mechanistic Studies of Water Oxidation in Photosystem II : water here, water there, water everywhere

    Author : Casper de Lichtenberg; Johannes Messinger; Wolfgang P. Schröder; Holger Dau; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oxygenic Photosynthesis; Photosystem II; TR-MIMS; isotope exchange; EPR; EDNMR; water splitting; water oxidation;

    Abstract : Oxygenic photosynthesis is undisputedly one of the most important chemical processes for human life on earth as it not only fills the atmosphere with the oxygen that we need to breathe, but also sustains the accumulation of biomass, which is not only used as nourishment but is also present in almost every aspect of our lives as building material, textiles in clothes and furniture, or even as living decorations to name a few.The photosynthetic water-splitting mechanism is catalyzed by a water:plastoquinone oxido-reductase by the name of photosystem II (PSII), which is embedded in the thylakoid membranes of plants, algae and cyanobacteria. 2. 2. Mechanistic Studies on Ruthenium-Catalyzed Hydrogen Transfer Reactions

    Author : Jenny B. Åberg; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Charles P. Casey; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mechanistic studies; catalysis; ruthenium; hydrogen transfer; racemization; transfer hydrogenation; alcohols; ketones; amines; imines; inner-sphere; outer-sphere; solvent cage effect; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : Mechanistic studies on three different ruthenium-based catalysts have been performed. The catalysts have in common that they have been employed in hydrogen transfer reactions involving alcohols and ketones, amines and imines or both. READ MORE

  3. 3. On-line Electrochemistry Electrospray Ionisation Mass Spectrometry : Method Development and Applications

    Author : Camilla Zettersten; Leif Nyholm; Per Sjöberg; Andries P. Bruins; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with studies of on-line electrochemistry electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (EC/ESI-MS). It is shown that the use of EC/ESI-MS demands optimal coupling characteristics. Pre-concentration and desalting, due to matrix exchange, were demonstrated for the model substance 1-hexanethiol in an EC/ESI-MS setup. READ MORE

  4. 4. Transition Metal Mediated Transformations of Carboranes

    Author : Ludvig Eriksson; Kalman Szabo; Uppsala universitet; []

  5. 5. Studies on nucleoside H-phosphonoselenoate chemistry and chalcogen exchange reaction between P(V) and P(III) compounds

    Author : Martin Kullberg; Jacek Stawinski; Wojciech Markiewicz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phosphorus chemistry; H-phosphonate; H-phosphonoselenoate; nucleotide analogues; selenization; selenium transfer; phosphoroselenoate; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the chemistry of compounds containing P-Se bonds has been studied. As a new addition to this class of compounds, H-phosphonoselenoate monoesters, have been introduced and two synthetic pathways for their preparation have been developed. READ MORE
