  1. 1. Reactions of Model and Anticancer Active Platinum(IV/II) Complexes - A Kinetic and Mechanistic Study

    Author : Kelemu Lemma; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Model Pt II complexes; Anticancer active Pt IV compounds; Cisplatin; Rescue agents; L-Ascorbic acid; Thiol; Substitution; Kinetics and mechanism; Electron transfer; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis reductions of model and anticancer active Pt(IV) complexes with thiols and ascorbic acid and substitution reactions of cisplatin and model Pt(II) complexes with S-donor nucleophiles (rescue agents) have been investigated using stopped-flow and UV/VIS spectrophotometry. Glutathione (GSH) reduction of the anticancer active Pt(IV) compounds t- and c-[PtCl4(cha)(NH3)] (cha = cyclohexylamine), t-[PtCl4(thiazole)(NH3)] and c-[PtCl4(NH3)2] at 25 oC was observed to be very fast. 2. 2. Platinum-free Electrocatalysts : Design, Synthesis, and Energy Applications

    Author : Yi Yang; Inna Soroka; Carina Lagergren; Serhiy Cherevko; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pt-free electrocatalysts; γ-radiation induced synthesis; size; morphology; structure; and composition of nanocatalysts; ORR; catalytic activity and durability; formation mechanism of catalyst materials in aqueous solutions.; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Pt is one of the most commonly used catalysts for green energy applications, such as fuel cells, electrolyzers, and dye-sensitized solar cells. Although enormous effort has been put into improving the catalytic activity and minimizing the usage of Pt in the catalysts, the low abundance and high price of Pt still limit the large-scale commercialization of green energy devices and facilities. 3. 3. Recycling of nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries; Characterization and recovery of nickel, AB5 alloy and cobalt

    Author : Filip Holmberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; recycling; nickel; AB5 alloy; cobalt; NiMH battery; hydrogen storage alloy; leaching;

    Abstract : Nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries are used today for applications that can assist in the adaptation toward carbon-neutral energy sources (i.e. hybrid vehicles and smart grids). Recovery of metals such as nickel, cobalt and rare earth elements (REEs) from discarded NiMH batteries is important for economic and/or technological reasons. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biochemical Control Aspects in Lignin Polymerization

    Author : Anders Holmgren; Gunnar Henriksson; Liming Zhang; Jussi Sipilä; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lignin polymerization; DHP; Ascorbic Acid; NADH; template polymerization; melanin; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Lignins are produced by all vascular plants and they represent one of the most abundant groups of biopolymers in nature. Lignin chemistry research, which has been of great importance for the progress of pulping technologies, has been plagued by the difficulties of its isolation and characterization. READ MORE

  5. 5. Regenerable Organochalcogen Antioxidants : An Explorative Study

    Author : Jiajie Yan; Lars Engman; David J. Procter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; autoxidation; antioxidant; selenium; tellurium; regenerable; multifunctional; radical-trapping; hydroperoxide-decomposing; co-antioxidant; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Antioxidants are widely used to protect organic materials from damages caused by autoxidation, an oxidation process that occurs under normal aerobic conditions. In this thesis, novel multifunctional organoselenium and organotellurium antioxidants were designed, synthesized, and evaluated in search for compounds with better radical-trapping capacity, regenerability, and hydroperoxide-decomposing ability.
