  1. 11. Neuroinflammation and pain

    Author : Linda Block; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neuroinflammation; Pain; Persistant pain; Astrocytes; Morphine; Naloxone; Intrathecal administration;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT Background: Persistent pain that remains long after the physiological trigger has been resolved is a disabling condition. A possible mechanism for the transition from acute physiological pain to persistent pain involves low-grade inflammation in the central nervous system, in which inflammatory-activated astrocytes play a significant role. 2. 12. The importance of astroglial cells in ischemia, regeneration and angiogenesis

    Author : Andrea Lundkvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : astrocytes; Müller cells; retina; intermediate filaments; GFAP; vimentin; angiogenesis; VEGF-A; guidance; matrix-metalloprotease;

    Abstract : Astrocytes in the CNS communicate with both neurons and blood vessels. In many CNS pathologies, astrocytes respond by becoming reactive. Whether their performance at this stage is beneficial or detrimental for CNS function is unclear. READ MORE

  3. 13. Human iPSC-based models of theCNS: attaining cellular biofidelitythrough conventional and advancedculture systems

    Author : Dimitrios Voulgaris; Anna Herland; Susanna Narkhilakhi; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neural stem cells; astrocytes; iPSC; hiAstrocytes; microphysiological systems; BBB; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Brain development is a highly orchestrated process that entails changes in microenvironmental cues and growth factor gradients, which set the tempo for proper development of the rudimentary structures of the brain and the generation of neurons,astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes. Another intricate feature of the brain is the bloodbrain barrier (BBB). READ MORE

  4. 14. Expression of sulfatide in rodent CNS - not only restricted to myelin

    Author : Zarah Pernber; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : sulfatide; glycosphingolipid; neurons; astrocytes; immunohistochemistry; brain; metachromatic leukodystrophy;

    Abstract : Sulfatide is an acidic glycosphingolipid and a component of myelin in the nervous system proposed to be involved in maintenance of the myelin structure and thereby its function. Sulfatide is also a commonly used marker for detection of oligodendrocyte progenitor cells in cultures as well as in tissues. READ MORE

  5. 15. Regulation of postnatal neurogenesis and brain angiogenesis by thyroid hormone

    Author : Jenny Liqun Zhang; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : thyroid hormone; neurogenesis; angiogenesis; SVZ OB; hippocampus; neural stem cells; endothelial cells; astrocytes;

    Abstract : Thyroid hormone (TH), which is secreted by the thyroid gland, exerts significant effects on the central nervous system (CNS), especially during development, so that delayed treatment of perinatal hypothyroidism results in severe cognitive retardation. Continuous postnatal neurogenesis occurs throughout adulthood in the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricle wall and in the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the dentate gyrus (DG) of the hippocampal formation.
