16. Advances in Stellar Astrophysics from Laboratory Spectroscopy
Abstract : Investigation of astrophysical plasmas, such as stellar atmospheres, require both knowledge of atomic structure and data. We present laboratory instruments, techniques and tools for acquisition of the data required to derive important atomic parameters such as, wavelengths, oscillator strengths and line profiles. 17. Regolith Properties of Mercury Derived from Observations and Modelling
Abstract : The properties of Mercury's regolith have been investigated at optical and near-infrared wavelengths with high-resolution imaging, photometric, and spectroscopic observations with the Swedish Vacuum Solar Telescope and the Nordic Optical Telescope. A new global optical map at a spatial resolution of 200 km shows that the well known (from Mariner 10) and poorly known hemispheres are indistinguishable with respect to the distribution, number density, and morphological parameters of bright albedo features. 18. Supersymmetry vis-à-vis Observation : Dark Matter Constraints, Global Fits and Statistical Issues
Abstract : Weak-scale supersymmetry is one of the most favoured theories beyond the Standard Model of particle physics that elegantly solves various theoretical and observational problems in both particle physics and cosmology. In this thesis, I describe the theoretical foundations of supersymmetry, issues that it can address and concrete supersymmetric models that are widely used in phenomenological studies. READ MORE

19. Models of Cooperation, Learning and Catastrophic Risk
Abstract : Our world presents us with dangers and opportunities. Some of these dangers and opportunities are easier to handle if two or more individuals learn to cooperate. This thesis contributes five papers about cooperation, learning and catastrophic risk. READ MORE

20. Dissipative formation of galaxies in hierarchical cosmology
Abstract : A description and detailed tests of a numerical code for simulations of galaxy formation is presented. The dynamics is followed with fully adaptive and Lagrangian Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) combined with a gravitational tree method. The severe numerical problem of sub-resolution clustering is solved by merging of gas particles. READ MORE
