  1. 21. Gas Production in Distant Comets

    Author : Marcus Gunnarsson; F Peter Schloerb; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; Comets; Radio Astronomy; Molecular Spectroscopy; Coma Models; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; astronomi; Astronomy;

    Abstract : Molecular spectroscopy at radio wavelengths is a tool well suited for studying the composition and outgassing kinematics of cometary comae. This is particularly true for distant comets, i.e. comets at heliocentric distances greater than a few AU, where the excitation of molecules is inefficient other than for rotational energy levels. 2. 22. A study of possible chemical inhomogeneities of dwarf irregular galaxies and the influence on the Z-L relationship

    Author : Ana Maria Hidalgo-Gámez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; dwarf irregular galaxies; chemical abundances; metallicity-luminosity relationship; individual galaxies: NGC 6822; IC 4662; IC 10; ESO 245-G05; NGC 1569; IC 5152; DDO 53 and DDO 190; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; astronomi; Astronomy;

    Abstract : A study on the chemical abundances of dwarf irregular galaxies (dI's) is presented in this work. This type of galaxies have typically low metallicity. First of all, a definition of dI is proposed, in order to obtain a homogeneous group of targets. READ MORE

  3. 23. Spectral and Temporal Studies of Gamma-Ray Bursts

    Author : Luis Borgonovo; Claes-Ingvar Björnsson; Jerry Fishman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are sporadic flashes of light observed primarily in the gamma-ray band. Being the brightest explosions in the Universe since its birth, they are at present also the furthest astronomical sources detected. READ MORE

  4. 24. On the Winds of Carbon Stars and the Origin of Carbon : A Theoretical Study

    Author : Lars Mattsson; Susanne Höfner; Nils Bergvall; Kjell Olofsson; Martin Groenewegen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AGB stars; carbon stars; mass loss; stellar winds; circumstellar matter; cosmic dust; stellar evolution; nucleosynthesis; galactic chemical evolution; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; Astronomy; Astronomi; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Carbon is the basis for life, as we know it, but its origin is still largely unclear. Carbon-rich Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars (carbon stars) play an important rôle in the cosmic matter cycle and may contribute most of the carbon in the Galaxy. READ MORE

  5. 25. Quasars and Low Surface Brightness Galaxies as Probes of Dark Matter

    Author : Erik Zackrisson; Nils Bergvall; Kjell Olofsson; Julianne Dalcanton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; Cosmology: dark matter; gravitational lensing; quasars: general; quasars: redshift; galaxies: halos; galaxies: formation; galaxies: stellar content; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik;

    Abstract : Most of the matter in the Universe appears to be in some form which does not emit or absorb light. While evidence for the existence of this dark matter has accumulated over the last seventy years, its nature remains elusive. READ MORE
