    Abstract : The identity of dark matter is one of the key outstanding problems in both particle and astrophysics. In this thesis, I describe a number of complementary searches for particle dark matter. READ MORE

  2. 2. Phenomenology of Inert Scalar and Supersymmetric Dark Matter

    Author : Erik Lundström; Joakim Edsjö; Lars Bergström; Michel Tytgat; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Dark matter; inert scalars; supersymmetry; indirect detection; accelerator searches; Physics; Fysik; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : While the dark matter has so far only revealed itself through the gravitational influence it exerts on its surroundings, there are good reasons to believe it is made up by WIMPs – a hypothetical class of heavy elementary particles not encompassed by the Standard Model of particle physics. The Inert Doublet Model constitutes a simple extension of the Standard Model Higgs sector. READ MORE

  3. 3. Accelerators for Physics Experiments : From Diagnostics and Control to Design

    Author : Elena Wildner; Thomas Lindblad; Mikael Eriksson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis develops techniques of control-methods, optimization, and diagnostics of accelerator equipment and the produced particle beams with emphasis on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) project at CERN. From a solid knowledge of the characteristics of the manufactured accelerator equipment gained from in-depth measurements and analysis of measured data, a link to an enhanced equipment design can be made. 4. 4. Search for Gamma-ray Lines from Dark Matter with the Fermi Large Area Telescope

    Author : Tomi Ylinen; Mark Pearce; Jan Conrad; Staffan Carius; James T. Linnemann; KTH; []

    Abstract : Dark matter (DM) constitutes one of the most intriguing but so far unresolved issues in physics. In many extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics, the existence of a stable Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) is predicted. The WIMP is an excellent DM particle candidate. 5. 5. A Search for Solar Neutralino Dark Matter with the AMANDA-II Neutrino Telescope

    Author : Thomas Burgess; Christian Walck; Alessandro de Angelis; Stockholms universitet; []

    Abstract : A relic density of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) remaining from the Big Bang constitutes a promising solution to the Dark Matter problem. It is possible for such WIMPs to be trapped by and accumulate in gravitational potentials of massive dense objects such as the Sun. READ MORE
