  1. 1. Supersymmetry vis-à-vis Observation : Dark Matter Constraints, Global Fits and Statistical Issues

    Author : Yashar Akrami; Joakim Edsjö; Lars Bergström; Roberto Trotta; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; supersymmetry; cosmology of theories beyond the Standard Model; dark matter; gamma rays; dwarf galaxies; direct detection; statistical techniques; scanning algorithms; genetic algorithms; statistical coverage; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; Cosmology; Kosmologi; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Weak-scale supersymmetry is one of the most favoured theories beyond the Standard Model of particle physics that elegantly solves various theoretical and observational problems in both particle physics and cosmology. In this thesis, I describe the theoretical foundations of supersymmetry, issues that it can address and concrete supersymmetric models that are widely used in phenomenological studies. READ MORE

  2. 2. Advances in Stellar Astrophysics from Laboratory Spectroscopy

    Author : Stefan Ivarsson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; iridium; osmium; uranium; oscillator strengths; Spectroscopy; term analysis; line profiles; line structure; astrophysics; Sun; Chi Lupi; 17 Comae A; chemically peculiar; praseodymium; stars; space research; cosmic chemistry; Astronomi; rymdvetenskap; kosmisk kemi; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Ivarsson;

    Abstract : Investigation of astrophysical plasmas, such as stellar atmospheres, require both knowledge of atomic structure and data. We present laboratory instruments, techniques and tools for acquisition of the data required to derive important atomic parameters such as, wavelengths, oscillator strengths and line profiles. 3. 3. Parametric Model for Astrophysical Proton-Proton Interactions and Applications

    Author : Niklas Karlsson; Per Carlson; Simon Swordy; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; astrophysics; gamma rays; proton-proton interactions; cosmic rays; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik;

    Abstract : Observations of gamma-rays have been made from celestial sources such as active galaxies, gamma-ray bursts and supernova remnants as well as the Galactic ridge. The study of gamma rays can provide information about production mechanisms and cosmic-ray acceleration. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cosmic rays and shock physics in gamma-ray bursts

    Author : Filip Samuelsson; Felix Ryde; Robert Mochkovitch; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; astrophysics; gamma-ray bursts; cosmic rays; radiation-mediated shocks; Atomic; Subatomic and Astrophysics; Atomär fysik; subatomär fysik och astrofysik;

    Abstract : Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are the most luminous events in the known universe. Due to their tremendous energy output, they serve as laboratories of physics far beyond anything that we can hope to achieve in terrestrial experiments. READ MORE

  5. 5. Multi-messenger emission from gamma-ray bursts

    Author : Filip Samuelsson; Felix Ryde; Peter Mészáros; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; astrophysics; gamma-ray bursts; cosmic rays; Atomic; Subatomic and Astrophysics; Atomär fysik; subatomär fysik och astrofysik;

    Abstract : Multi-messenger astronomy is a very hot topic in the astrophysical community. A messenger is something that carries information. Different astrophysical messenger types are photons, cosmic rays, neutrinos, and gravitational waves. They all carry unique and complementary information to one another. READ MORE
