6. Applications of ocean transport modelling
Abstract : The advective motion of seawater governs the transport of almost everything, animate or inanimate, present in the ocean and those lacking the ability to outswim the currents have to follow the flow. This makes modelling of advective ocean transports a powerful tool in various fields of science where a displacement of something over time is studied. READ MORE

7. Dynamical aspects of coherent eddies in the North Atlantic Ocean : Insights from Satellite Observations
Abstract : Oceanic mesoscale eddies, often referred to as the “weather of the ocean”, have horizontal scales of O(10) − O(102) kilometers and timescales spanning days to months. These structures comprise a complex system of coherent eddies (meaning they retain their shape and structure over time and space), filaments, and spirals that influence the transport of heat, salt, and nutrients in the ocean. 8. Transport of Mercury Species in the Environment. Exchange between Oceanic Waters and the Atmosphere
Abstract : Mercury is an element present in the earth crust as well as a component in the atmosphere. During centuries mercury has been released by natural sources, e.g. volcanic eruptions, evasion from water surfaces and degassing from soil. READ MORE

9. 231Pa, 230Th and 232Th as tracers of deep water circulation and particle transport : Insights from the Mediterranean Sea and the Arctic Ocean
Abstract : The naturally occurring U and Th-series radionuclides have shown to have a considerable importance for the understanding of biogeochemical processes on Earth and in the ocean. In this thesis, the isotopes 230-thorium (230Th), 232-thorium (232Th) and 231-protactinium (231Pa) are used as tracers of the transport and scavenging of marine particles and water circulation. 10. Accelerator Mass Spectrometry of 36Cl and 129I : Analytical Aspects and Applications
Abstract : Two long-lived halogen radionuclides (36Cl, T1/2 = 301 kyr, and 129I, T1/2 = 15.7 Myr) have been studied by means of Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) at the Uppsala Tandem Laboratory. The 36Cl measurements in natural samples using a medium-sized tandem accelerator (~1 MeV/amu) have been considered. READ MORE
