  1. 6. Modelling of stably-stratified, convective and transitional atmospheric boundary layers using the explicit algebraic Reynolds-stress model

    Author : Velibor Zeli; Gert Brethouwer; Arne V. Johansson; Stefan Wallin; Bert Holtslag; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmospheric turbulence; convective atmosphere; Reynolds-stress model; stably-stratified atmosphere; transitional atmosphere; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : The atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) is in continuous turbulent motion. The heating and cooling of the Earth’s surface drives mechanic and thermodynamic processes in the ABL through enhancing and damping of atmospheric turbulence. The surface forcing has a profound effect on the diurnal cycle of temperature,wind and related variables in the ABL. READ MORE

  2. 7. Microorganisms in the atmosphere

    Author : Camilla Fahlgren; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Bacteria are present everywhere around us; in water, soil, food, on our skin, and in the air we breathe, mainly as parts of aerosols (i.e. minute air-suspended particles). Aerosols are mainly composed of sea salt, dust, sulphates and soot but some also contain bacteria, virus, pollen, plant debris and organic matter (i. READ MORE

  3. 8. Atmosphere in care settings : Towards a broader understanding of the phenomenon

    Author : David Edvardsson; Birgit Rasmussen; PO Sandman; Marit Kirkevold; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nursing; Narrative analysis; Grounded Theory; Phenomenological hermeneutics; Symbols; At-homeness; Environment; Omvårdnad; Nursing; Omvårdnad; caring sciences in social sciences; omvårdnadsforskning med samhällsvetenskaplig inriktning;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the study is to understand and describe the phenomenon ‘atmosphere in care settings’ as experienced by patients, significant others and health care staff. The study consists of four papers, each of which illuminates various aspects of the phenomenon. READ MORE

  4. 9. Measuring the solar atmosphere

    Author : Jaime de la Cruz Rodríguez; Göran Scharmer; Dan Kiselman; Mats Carlsson; Gianna Cauzzi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sun; Chromosphere; Spectropolarimetry; Solar observations; Spectral lines; Solar magnetic fields; Astronomy; Astronomi; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : The new CRISP filter at the Swedish 1-m Solar Telescope provides opportunities for observing the solar atmosphere with unprecedented spatial resolution and cadence. In order to benefit from the high quality of observational data from this instrument, we have developed methods for calibrating and restoring polarized Stokes images, obtained at optical and near infrared wavelengths, taking into account field-of-view variations of the filter properties. 5. 10. The Arctic Summer Atmosphere

    Author : Cecilia Wesslén; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; meteorology; reanalysis; clouds; remote sensing;

    Abstract : The Arctic climate has experienced large changes over recent decades, the largest for any region on Earth. To understand the underlying reasons for this climate sensitivity, we need both models and observations. READ MORE
