  1. 1. Nanoscale studies of the atmospheric corrosion of copper protected by ultrathin organic films

    Author : Weijie Zhao; C. Magnus Johnson; Christopher Leygraf; Guido Grundmeier; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmospheric corrosion; copper; corrosion inhibition; Langmuir-Blodgett LB deposition; self-assembly deposition; nano-FTIR; octadecylphosphonic acid ODPA .; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Copper (Cu) has been utilised by humans for millenniums and has become an indispensable metal in modern industry and in our infrastructure. However, corrosion, as a natural process for metallic materials, takes place on copper surfaces in most environments. READ MORE

  2. 2. The effect of microstructure and temperature on the atmospheric corrosion of Mg-Al alloys

    Author : Mohsen Esmaily; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmospheric corrosion; microstructure; temperature; corrosion product; magnesium;

    Abstract : The NaCl-induced atmospheric corrosion behavior of the Mg-Al alloy AM50 produced by rheo-casting (RC) and high pressure die casting (HPDC) techniques was studied in the laboratory. The exposures were performed at 95% RH in the absence and presence of 400 ppm CO2 at 22, 4 and -4ºC. In parallel, 99.97%Mg was investigated as reference. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Role of Microstructure in the Atmospheric Corrosion of Selected Light Alloys and Composites

    Author : Mohsen Esmaily; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; galvanic corrosion; Al content; microstructure; intermetallic particles; atmospheric corrosion; Al alloy 6xxx; casting; Mg-Al alloys; FSW P; BFSW.; Mg alloys-based MMCs;

    Abstract : Magnesium-aluminum (Mg-Al) alloys, Mg-based metal matrix composites (MMCs) and Al alloys are among the best material candidates for future lightweight solutions. However, the use of these materials is limited by a number of issues, including the ability to resist corrosion. READ MORE

  4. 4. Localised corrosion and atmospheric corrosion of stainless steels

    Author : Sukanya Hägg Mameng; Rachel Pettersson; Christopher Leygraf; Thomas Ladwein; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; stainless steel; localised corrosion; atmospheric corrosion; alloy composition; surface finish; surface roughness; surface treatment; surface orientation; contamination; chloride; sulphate; temperature; chlorination; exposure conditions.; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : This research is focused on defining limiting conditions for corrosion of stainless steels. The aim of the first part (Papers I-IV) was to understand the role of alloying level and environmental parameters on localised corrosion in aqueous conditions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Atmospheric corrosion of Mg and MgAl alloys – characterization and mechanisms

    Author : Mehrdad Shahabi Navid; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EDX; CO2; XPS; Mg and MgAl alloys; NaCl; Atmospheric corrosion; Characterization; 3D imaging; SEM; BIB; Thin film; FTIR; XRD; Pitting; Interference microscopy; FIB;

    Abstract : The atmospheric corrosion of Mg and MgAl alloys was investigated. Corrosion tests were performed in the laboratory under controlled environment. CP Mg, AM50 and AZ91 samples were exposed at 95% RH and 22°C in the presence and in the absence of 400 ppm CO2 for 24 h to 672 h. The passive film was characterized by means of XPS, FTIR, AES and XRD. READ MORE
