  1. 1. Arctic Atmospheric Rivers : Eulerian and Lagrangian features, and trends over the last 40 years

    Author : Cheng You; Michael Tjernström; Abhay Devasthale; Heikki Järvinen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; Atmospheric river; Stratocumulus; Blocking; Turbulence; Longwave irradiance; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Arctic Atmospheric rivers, termed ‘warm-and-moist intrusion’ (WaMAI) in this thesis, transporting heat and moisture into the Arctic from lower latitudes, is a key contributor to the amplified warming in the Arctic under global change (Arctic Amplification). However, the warming effect of WaMAIs and its transformation along the trajectories into high Arctic still remain unclear, as well as their relation with the large-scale atmospheric circulation. 2. 2. Mesoscale Simulations of Atmospheric Flow in Complex Terrain

    Author : Matthias Mohr; Sergej Zilitinkevich; Leif Enger; Dieter P. Eppel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Meteorology; Mesoscale modeling; Flow in complex terrain; Atmospheric dispersion; Model comparison; Boundary conditions; Numerical modeling; Atmospheric pressure; Gravity waves; Meteorologi; Meteorology; Meteorologi; Meteorology; meteorologi;

    Abstract : The MIUU mesoscale model was further developed, in order to include information on large-scale atmospheric fields from global or regional atmospheric climate- and weather-prediction models. For this purpose, a new lateral boundary condition was developed and implemented into the model. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fluid dynamic principles for analysis of intracranial pressure control : application towards space medicine and hydrocephalus

    Author : Petter Holmlund; Anders Eklund; Sara Qvarlander; Jan Malm; Marek Czosnyka; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intracranial pressure; posture; cerebrospinal fluid; microgravity; venous collapse; internal jugular vein; fluid dynamics; venous pressure; spaceflight-associated neuro-ocular syndrome; hydrocephalus; mathematical modeling; ultrasound; magnetic resonance imaging;

    Abstract : Intracranial pressure (ICP) is an important component of the fluid dynamic environment of the brain and plays a central role with regards to the maintenance of normal cerebral blood flow and neuronal function. However, many regulatory mechanisms controlling the ICP are still poorly understood. READ MORE

  4. 4. Improving the understanding of cloud radiative heating

    Author : Erik Johansson; Abhay Devasthale; Michael Tjernström; Annica M. L. Ekman; Robert Pincus; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; clouds; radiative effects; upper troposphere-lower stratosphere; atmospheric circulation; remote sensing; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Clouds play an essential role in regulating Earth’s radiation budget by reflecting and absorbing energy at different spectra. As they interact with radiation, they can radiatively heat or cool the adjacent atmosphere and the surface. READ MORE

  5. 5. On atmospheric low frequency variability, teleconnections and link to jet variability

    Author : Waheed Iqbal (وحید اقبال ); Abdel Hannachi; Peter Lundberg; Thomas Spengler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : The atmosphere is a complex system with an infinite number of independent variables. The best approximations of the atmosphere are made using numerical models. The use of such models provides an invaluable tool for studying the atmospheric system. READ MORE
