21. New innovative methods for non-intrusive optical diagnostics of high-voltage insulator materials
Abstract : The purpose of this PhD thesis work has been to develop optical techniques that can help utility engineers for assessing the state of insulators in service and in a laboratory. The possibilities to use remote laser induced fluorescence for detection and imaging of biological growth such as algae and fungi have been investigated. READ MORE

22. Adsorption of Molecules on Metal Surfaces Studied by High Resolution Core Level Photoemission
Abstract : Various aspects of the adsorption of molecules on metal surfaces have been studied making use of different properties of high resolution core level photoemission. A thorough investigation has been performed of the ordering and the site occupancy of CO overlayers on Rh(111). CO has been shown to adsorb in on-top and three-fold-hollow sites. READ MORE

23. Investigations of Issues Relevant to the Application of Photon Echoes in Information Technology
Abstract : Photon echoes have been studied both experimentally and theoretically, with the main part of the work centred around the concept of using photon echoes for all-optical data storage and processing. The four basic Boolean operators, AND, OR, NOT and XOR have been experimentally demonstrated using photon echoes. READ MORE

24. Characterisation and application of a laser-based hard x-ray source
Abstract : Hard X-rays are generated by focusing 110 fs laser pulses with intensities of about 1017 W·cm-2 onto solid metal targets. Characteristic properties of this X-ray source are the small source size, the short pulse duration and the high peak flux. READ MORE

25. Diode laser spectroscopy in extended wavelength ranges
Abstract : Diode laser spectroscopy performed in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared spectral regions is presented. The accessible wavelength range for visible and near-infrared diode lasers is extended by the use of sum- and difference-frequency generation. READ MORE
