  1. 1. Numerical Modeling of Atomization in Spray Systems

    Author : Michele Pütz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spray modeling; quadrature-based moment methods; atomization; numerical simulation; Multiphase; population balance equations;

    Abstract : Dispersed multiphase flows refer to dynamic systems comprising two or more phases where at least one phase is in the form of fine particles evolving in and interacting with a surrounding fluid. Spray systems fall into that category. READ MORE

  2. 2. Experimental Investigation of Cavitation-Bubble-Induced Atomization

    Author : Jiayi Zhou; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cavitation bubble; liquid atomization; shadowgraph;

    Abstract : Improving the efficiency and lowering the emissions of internal combustion engines (ICE) has been drawing increased attention because climate change caused by greenhouse gases and the need to reduce emission harmful to human health, and stricter legislation on the emissions from liquid-fueled transportation is implemented. Design of the liquid fuel atomizer, which atomizes the fuel delivered into the combustion chamber by the fuel injection system, is important because a good atomization, which facilitates the evaporation of fuel and improves the fuel-air mixture, leads to higher efficiency and lower emissions of ICE. 3. 3. Laser-based powder bed fusion of stainless steels

    Author : Dmitri Riabov; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; additive; 316L; maraging; oxidation; oxides; morphology; atomization; flowability; PBF-LB; mechanical properties; spreadability; precipitates; surface; powder; ODS;

    Abstract : The aim of the present work has been to widen the knowledge of how variations within powder manufacturing affect laser-based powder bed fusion processing, and how this processing affects the microstructure and strength of stainless steels. The approach was to keep the processing parameters fixed while the powder feedstock was varied. READ MORE

  4. 4. Numerical Modelling of Diesel Spray Injection, Turbulence Interaction and Combustion

    Author : Fabian Kärrholm Peng; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atomization; Spray; Flame; Cavitation; Ignition Delay; Lift-off; Combustion; Computational Fluid Dynamics; Numerical Scheme; TVD; Diesel; Turbulence Model;

    Abstract : This thesis covers two main topics. The first is numerical modelling ofcavitating diesel injector flows, focusing on describing suchflows using asingle-phase cavitation model based on a barotropic equation of statetogetherwith a homogenous equilibrium assumption. READ MORE

  5. 5. Some Aspects of Gas Turbine Fuel Preparation and Turbomachinery Response to LCV Fuels

    Author : Pontus Eriksson; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PDA; LDA; PIV; atomization; spray; off-design; biogas; combustor; biofuel; turbine; Gas turbine; compressor;

    Abstract : This thesis gives some background information on environmental issues as the scientific community at large currently sees it. It tries to relate the plethora of current combustion technologies which may be used in gas turbines to those issues. Some basic principles on combustion design are given. READ MORE
