  1. 1. Stem cells in the adult heart - 3D culture, isolation of side population cells and search for a stem cell niche

    Author : Kristina Vukusic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart; cardiac stem cells; Stem cell niche; Atrioventricular junction; Side population; 3D culture;

    Abstract : Cardiac tissue shows a poor regenerative capacity. From 2003 reports, mostly based on animal models, have showed existence of stem cells also in the heart. Using 14C measurements, a slow but steady turnover of the cardiac cells was shown in humans, around 1%/year. As a source for this regeneration endogenous stem cells have been suggested. READ MORE

  2. 2. Extracellular factors for preservation and delivery of stromal cells

    Author : Kim Olesen; Karl-Henrik Grinnemo; Andreas Tilevik; Wing Cheung Mak; Cecilia Österholm; Magnus Fagerlind; Yuji Teramura; Högskolan i Skövde; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infection Biology; Infektionsbiologi;

    Abstract : Modulating the immune response after a myocardial infarction seems like an appropriate strategy for reducing myocardial fibrosis. Mesenchymal Stromal Cells are immunomodulatory and have thus gained interest, but have so far not achieved the desired clinical outcomes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation : effects on rhythm, symptoms and health-related quality of life

    Author : Anna Björkenheim; Dritan Poçi; Deirdre Lane; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; catheter ablation; symptoms; quality of life;

    Abstract : Background: AF ablation is an increasingly used treatment in patients with AF to improve patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Atrioventricular junction ablation (AVJA) is a palliative treatment option in therapy refractory AF that improves PROs but renders the patient pacemaker dependent. READ MORE
