  1. 11. Identification and characterization of progenitor populations in the human adult heart

    Author : Joakim Sandstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cardiac progenitor cells; heart; C-kit; Side Population; Stage Specific Embryonic Antigens; FACS;

    Abstract : Traditionally, the heart has been regarded as a non-regenerative organ. During the last 10 years, this notion has been challenged. By 14C measurements, it was calculated that at the age of 50, about 45% of all cardiomyocytes had formed after birth. READ MORE

  2. 12. Spatial characteristics of atrial fibrillation using body surface and intra-atrial signals

    Author : Ulrike Richter; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis is in the field of biomedical signal processing with main focus on processing of cardiac signals measured on the body surface or invasively from patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The first part addresses spatial analysis of AF using VCG data synthesized from the 12-lead ECG. READ MORE

  3. 13. Three-dimensional assessment of cardiac function; When right is wrong

    Author : Ellen Ostenfeld; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Key words Three-dimensional echocardiography; cardiac magnetic resonance imaging; cardiac function; volumes; atria; ventricles; pulmonary hypertension; right heart catheterization; right ventricular pressure load.;

    Abstract : Assessment of the right side of the heart is important in patients with heart disease; especially in patient with elevated pressure in the lung circulation. Decreased right ventricular function and elevated pressure in the right atrium are of poor prognostic value. READ MORE

  4. 14. The Role of Impaired Interatrial Conduction in Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation

    Author : Pyotr Platonov; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electrophysiology; Cardiovascular system; anatomy; interatrial conduction; lone atrial fibrillation; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the role of interatrial conduction defects in the genesis of lone paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) using combined approach of non-invasive signal-averaged P-wave ECG, invasive electrophysiological (EP) studies, anatomical studies and animal experiments. Non-filtered signal-averaged P-wave ECG revealed irregularities in orthogonal P-wave morphology and the presence of double-peaked configurations of P-wave spatial magnitude in patients with lone paroxysmal AF compared with healthy individuals (I), suggesting the presence of interatrial conduction delays localised in the posterior-inferior interatrial route. 5. 15. Conduction Disturbances in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation

    Author : Eva Hertervig; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Pulmonary Vein Potentials; Atrial Fibrillation; Conduction Disturbances;

    Abstract : Background: The electrophysiological mechanisms underlying atrial fibrillation (AF) are incompletely understood. Experimental studies have shown that remodelling of the atrial myocardium is linked to the occurrence and perpetuation of AF. READ MORE
