1. On microstructure formation and mechanical properties in grey cast iron
Abstract : A major user of cast components is the automotive industry, where the functionality of the components is related to environmental demands. Internal combustion engines are constantly being improved to emit less pollution. A vital part in this development is to increase the material properties of engine components during their life cycle. 2. Compacted graphite iron : On solidification phenomena related to shrinkage defects
Abstract : An improved understanding of solidification of compacted graphite iron (CGI) is necessary to predict shrinkage related casting defects. Spheroidal graphite is not only found in ductile iron (SGI) but usually also in CGI, but its characteristics and role in this material is less understood. READ MORE

3. On the solidification of compacted and spheroidal graphite irons
Abstract : A good understanding of the solidification process of a cast material is essential to understand how the combination of alloy composition and the casting process variables combines into the solid cast component and its performance. The wrong combination may result in poor performance or casting defects. READ MORE

4. Slag/Metal Metallurgy in Iron and Steel Melts
Abstract : In this work, the metal and slag phase mixing in three steps of a ladle refining operation of steel melts and for an oxygen balance during cooling of cast iron melts have been studied at two Swedish steel plants and at two Swedish cast iron foundries, respectively. In order to predict the oxygen activity in the steel bulk in equilibrium with the top slag as well as in metal droplets in the top slag in equilibrium with the top slag, three slag models were used. 5. Defect Formation during Solidification in Grey Iron Castings
Abstract : The presence of defects is of major concern in the production of grey iron castings. Some defects are merely an aesthetic problem while others can be detrimental for the performance of the component. Among the several possible defects, shrinkage porosity is one of the more challenging to understand and avoid. READ MORE
