  1. 1. Cellular remodeling in response to nutrient exhaustion : From membrane contact sites to autophagy

    Author : Mahsa Ebrahimi; Sabrina Büttner; Cristina Mazzoni; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aging and longevity; yeast; phosphate restriction; interorganellar communication; autophagy; MVB pathway; NVJs; lipid droplets; nutritional regimes; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Adaptation to fluctuating environments is critical for cellular fitness and survival. Cells need to sense changes in their surroundings and quickly adjust cellular homeostasis and metabolism accordingly. READ MORE

  2. 2. Congenital muscular dystrophy with laminin α2 chain-deficiency. Initiation of disease and development of treatment

    Author : Zandra Körner; Muskelbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muskeldystrofi; Muscular dystrophy; Autophagy; proteasome; Laminin; MDC1A;

    Abstract : Congenital muscle dystrophy type 1A (MDC1A) is a muscle disease caused bymutations in the LAMA2 gene, encoding the basement membrane protein lamininα2 chain. MDC1A patients exhibit neonatal onset of muscle weakness, progressivemuscle wasting and hypotonia, joint contractures that mostly affect elbows, hips,knees and ankles along with scoliosis and delayed motor milestones. 3. 3. Mechanisms of HAMLET-induced cancer cell death

    Author : Sonja Aits; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alpha-actinin; prohibitin; alpha-lactalbumin; HAMLET; cancer; cell death; autophagy; focal adhesions; c-Myc; hexokinase; glycolysis;

    Abstract : HAMLET, a complex of α-lactalbumin and oleic acid, preferentially kills cancer cells and is also effective in vivo. HAMLET causes apoptosis but cells die even if this pathway is inhibited. Thus, the role of autophagy, an alternative cell death pathway, was examined. READ MORE

  4. 4. Chimeric gene delivery vectors : Design, synthesis, and mechanisms from transcriptomics analysis

    Author : Moataz Dowaidar; Ülo Langel; Sandrine Sagan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell-penetrating peptides; magnetic nanoparticles; graphene oxide; autophagy; siRNA; SCO; QSAR; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : Delivery of nucleic acid is a promising approach for genetic diseases/disorders. However, gene therapy using oligonucleotides (ONs) suffers from low transfection efficacy due to negative charges, weak cellular permeability, and enzymatic degradation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Apoptosis and tumor cell death pathways in response to HAMLET

    Author : Oskar Hallgren; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicinska vetenskaper allmänt ; General biomedical sciences; Klinisk biologi; apoptosis; autophagy; alpha-lactalbumin; Clinical biology; programmed cell death; HAMLET; cell cycle;

    Abstract : HAMLET (Human alpha-lactalbumin made lethal to tumor cells) is a molecular complex of alpha-lactalbumin and oleic acid, that induces programmed cells death in tumor cells but leaves healthy differentiated cells unaffected. It has a broad anti-tumor activity as more than 40 cell lines from different origin are sensitive. READ MORE
