  1. 1. Characterization of human myeloid progenitors and their differentiation

    Author : Louise Edvardsson; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; extracellular fluids; Haematology; Medicin människa och djur ; thrombopoietin receptor; hematopoiesis; transcription factors; growth factor receptors; human myeloid progenitors; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : All hematopoietic cells are derived from the hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in a continuous and dynamic process, regulated by a network of transcription factors in different combinations and extrinsic signals from growth factors (GFs) and other factors in the microenvironment. In the initial stages of hematopoiesis HSCs differentiate to progenitor cells with gradually more restricted lineage potential and according to the most accepted model the first restriction in developmental potential results in commitment to either the lymphoid or the myeloid branch, in the latter followed by commitment to the neutrophil/monocyte and erythrocyte/megakaryocyte lineages. 2. 2. Genetic Predisposition to Sporadic and Familial Multiple Myeloma

    Author : Britt-Marie Halvarsson; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; multiple myeloma; genetics; inherited predisposition; familial multiple myeloma; GWAS; polygenic risk score;

    Abstract : Multiple Myeloma (MM) is the second most common hematological malignancy. It is defined by an uncontrolled growth of plasma cells, usually in the bone marrow. Clinically it is complicated by hypercalcemia, renal failure, anaemia, and bone pain. READ MORE

  3. 3. The role of the leukemia-associated ETO homologue repressors in hematopoiesis

    Author : André Olsson; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MTGR1; ETO; MTG16; AML1-ETO; hematopoiesis; leukemia; diffferentiation; extracellular fluids; Haematology; Medicin människa och djur ; extracellulära vätskor; Hematologi; Medicine human and vertebrates ;

    Abstract : The fusion protein AML1-ETO is observed in acute myeloid patients with the chromosomal translocation t(8;21). Cells with this chimeric protein have impaired granulocytic and erythroid differentiation with accumulation of myeloblasts. The transcriptional co-repressor ETO (Eight Twenty One) was identified from the cloning of AML1-ETO. READ MORE

  4. 4. Bactericidal/Permeability-Increasing Protein (BPI) and Proteinase 3: Studies at the Transcriptional Level

    Author : Katrien Pieters; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; azurophil granules; myelopoiesis; BPI; mouse ortholog; proteinase 3; transcriptional regulation; Wegener s Granulomatosis WG ; SNP; Medicine human and vertebrates ; extracellulära vätskor; Hematologi; extracellular fluids; Haematology; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Abstract : In myelopoiesis, neutrophils and monocytes/macrophages are formed from a common myeloid precursor cell in the bone marow. During maturation of neutrophils, cytoplasmic granules are formed in the cells and the content of these granules is critical for the function of neutrophils in the first line of defense against invading microorganisms. 5. 5. Mechanisms for Targeting of Proteins to Secretory Lysosomes of Haematopoietic Cells

    Author : Hanna Rosén; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor; Haematology; extracellular fluids; haematopoietic cells; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; secretory lysosomes; protein targeting;

    Abstract : The cells of the innate immune system are essential for the host's first line defence against infection. Among these cells the neutrophil granulocyte has a central role by the production of antibiotic proteins and peptides. READ MORE
