  1. 11. Gene Expression Studies of Hematologic Malignacies

    Author : Anna Andersson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Haematology; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; oncology; Cytology; acute myeloid leukemia; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; normal hematopoietic cells; cDNA microarray; gene expression profiling; hematopoiesis; pediatric leukemia; fusion gene; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cancerology; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to characterize hematologic malignancies using gene expression profiling in order to obtain an improved classification and to study deregulated transcriptional networks in leukemia. In the first study (Article I), the gene expression profiles of hematologic cell lines were analyzed to investigate whether such cell lines maintain expression profiles that are characteristic of their primary genetic changes. 2. 12. Cytogenetic studies of primary and metastatic breast cancer

    Author : Adewale Adeyinka; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; histokemi; cytokemi; Histologi; tissue culture; cytochemistry; histochemistry; Histology; metastases; prognosis; male breast cancer; breast cancer; trisomy 12; Cytogenetics; chromosomes; vävnadskultur; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : A series of primary and metastatic breast carcinomas obtained from female and male patients were cytogenetically analysed. Trisomy 12 was identified as a recurrent and sometimes early event in breast carcinogenesis. READ MORE

  4. 14. Characterization of somatic mutations in nonneoplastic cells

    Author : Karin Broberg; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical genetics; osteoarthritis; nonneoplastic; HMGIC; trisomy 7; FISH; Molecular genetics; cytogenetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Acquired genetic alterations, of which many are visible on the chromosome level, are believed to be necessary for tumorigenesis, and most tumors display characteristic patterns of recurrent structural and numerical aberrations. However, two of the most frequently occurring chromosome mutations in malignant and benign solid tumors, i.e. READ MORE

  5. 15. Identification and Characterization of Novel Candidate Oncogenes

    Author : Marina Mencinger; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk genetik; Clinical genetics; RBP56; APRIL; TFG; FUS; EWS; EST database; fusion genes; chromosome; molecular genetics; cancer; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi;

    Abstract : Using computer-assisted sequence homology searches we identified three genes encoding proteins similar to certain fusion partner proteins in cancer. The novel APRIL gene was localized to 15q25 and encodes a protein, containing an acidic amino-acid region similar to that/those of leukemia-associated fusion partner proteins DEK and SET. READ MORE
