  1. 1. Overlapping Neural Substrates of Alcohol- and Anxiety-Related Behavior in the Rat

    Author : Riccardo Barchiesi; Estelle Barbier; Markus Heilig; Annika Thorsell; Andrew Holmes; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alcohol use disorder; Anxiety disorder; Behavior; Rat; Prelimbic cortex; Amygdala; Basolateral amygdala; Stress; Epigenetics; Syt1; Prdm2; Avp; Conditioned fear; Social defeat stress; Witness stress; Susceptibility; Resilience;

    Abstract : Alcohol use is a leading cause of death and disease worldwide. A large part of this disease burden is associated with alcohol use disorder (AUD), a diagnostic category characterized by excessive use in spite of negative consequences ("compulsive use"), a loss of control over intake, and choice of alcohol over natural rewards. 2. 2. The effects of some peptide hormones on osteoblast-like cells : with specific focus on oxytocin and vasopressin

    Author : Alena Lagumdzija; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : h0B; SaOS-2; OXT; AVP; IGF-I; PTH; PTHrP; eNOSKO;

    Abstract : The nonapeptides oxytocin (OXT) and vasopressin (AVP) are mainly produced in the hypothalamus and released into the circulation through the neurohypophysis. Recently, an OXT-receptor was demonstrated in human osteoblast-like (hOB) cells, and it has been suggested that patients with central diabetes insipidus (deficiency of AVP) have decreased bone mass. 3. 3. Nitric oxide in central nervous structures associated with water balance and micturition

    Author : Anders Nylén; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacological sciences; spinal projections; True Blue; cystometry; circumventricular organs; paraventricular nucleus; supraoptic nucleus; NADPH diaphorase; immunohistochemistry; oxytocin; 8-arginine-vasopressin; hypothalamus; rat; micturition; nitric oxide; water balance; neuronal nitric oxide synthase; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The role of nitric oxide (NO) in the central control of water balance and micturition has not yet been established. In the present thesis, where female rats were used, neuronal NO synthase (nNOS) distribution was studied in structures of the central nervous system known to be associated with the above mentioned control. 4. 4. Keeping goats and kids together : focus on milk ejection, milk composition, curd yield and animal welfare

    Author : Madeleine Högberg; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Milk with high concentrations of fat, total protein and casein is required for cheese production. The Swedish landrace goat produces milk with relatively low dry matter content. The explanation for this may be genetic factors in combination with unfavourable management and milking routines. READ MORE

  5. 5. Expression and regulation of water channels and ion transporters : ontogenic aspects

    Author : Masato Yasui; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : water balance; developmental gene expression regulation; gene transcription; fetal lung fluid; urinary concentrating capacity; hormonal regulation;

    Abstract : The content and distribution of body water changes dramatically during the perinatal period and in infancy. Transport of water across the cell membrane occurs via diffusion and via specific water channels. Transport via water channels is fast and may be hormonally regulated. READ MORE
