  1. 21. Characterization of B cell response alterations resulting from ablation of IκBNS expression

    Author : Sharesta Khoenkhoen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The immune system is a sophisticated organization of cells and tissues that cooperate in safeguarding the integrity of our body by eliminating internal and external threats. Vaccines are the most impactful medical intervention and have contributed tremendously to lowering mortality rates of infectious diseases. READ MORE

  2. 22. Peripheral immunity in patients with autoimmune endocrine diseases and the influence of physiological adaptions during pregnancy

    Author : Louise Magnusson; Per-Ola Carlsson; Rosaura Casas; Ola Winqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Hashimoto´s thyroiditis; Graves´ disease; autoimmune Addison´s disease; antigen-presenting cells; B cells; non-classical monocytes; NK cells; memory CD8 T cells; CDCP1; SLAMF1; inflammation; lymphocyte activation; pregnancy; β-cell function; C-peptide; plasma proteome; prolactin; prokineticin-1; glucagon; oral glucose tolerance test; mass cytometry; proximity extension assay; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology; Endocrinology and Diabetology; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes (T1D), Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT), Graves’ disease (GD), and autoimmune Addison’s disease (AD) appear to share immunogenetic mechanisms. This idea is not novel, as “autoimmune tautology” is an established concept. READ MORE

  3. 23. Pinpointing biomarkers of importance for children with combined type 1 diabetes and celiac disease

    Author : Andrea Tompa; Maria Faresjö; Karin Åkesson; Mikael Karlsson; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; celiac disease; children; biomarkers; immune markers; flow cytometry; cryopreservation; T cells; T-regulatory cells; B cells; B-regulatory cells; cytokines; chemokines; acute phase proteins; adipocytokines; matrix metalloproteinases;

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) and celiac disease are both characterized by an autoimmune feature. The diseases also share the same risk genes, and thereby patients have an increased risk of developing the other disease subsequently. READ MORE

  4. 24. Extrathymic T cell receptor gene rearrangement in human alimentary tract

    Author : Anna Bas; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Sten Hammarström; Adrian Hayday; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; T cell maturation; recombination activating gene; preTα; human intestinal mucosa; intraepithelial lymphocytes; lamina propria lymphocytes; nasopharyngeal tonsil; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : T lymphocytes regulate the initiation, duration, and magnitude of adaptive immune responses and function as effector cells in cell mediated immunity. To become immunologically competent they must generate functional antigen receptors. This process takes place in the thymus and requires somatic recombination of T cell receptor (TCR) genes. 5. 25. Immunoglobulin Gene Analysis in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia : Characterization of New Prognostic and Biological Subsets

    Author : Gerard Tobin; Richard Rosenquist; Christer Sundström; Anna Laurell; Nicholas Chiorazzi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; chronic lymphocytic leukemia; immunoglobulin genes; VH3-21; CDR3; P2X7; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Recent studies have shown that the somatic mutation status of the immunoglobulin (Ig) VH genes can divide chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) into two prognostic subsets, since cases with mutated VH genes display superior survival compared to unmutated cases. Biased VH gene usage has also been reported in CLL which may reflect antigen selection. READ MORE
