  1. 11. Studies of neuropeptides in pancreatic beta cell function with special emphasis on islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP)

    Author : Ella Karlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; alpha cell; amylin; beta cell; chromogranin; growth; IAPP; insulin; islet amyloid polypeptide; leptin; NOD mice; pancreastatin; pancreatic islet; proliferation; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : The presence of protein amyloid in pancreas and its association to diabetes was first described 100 years ago in 1901, but was not identified as Islet Amyloid Polypeptide (IAPP) until 1986. The aim of the present work was to determine the role of the beta cell hormone, IAPP, in normal pancreatic islet physiology and during early disturbances of islet function. READ MORE

  2. 12. Molecular Genetic Analysis in B-cell Lymphomas : A Focus on the p53 Pathway and p16INK4a

    Author : Norafiza Zainuddin; Gunilla Enblad; Richard Rosenquist; Mattias Berglund; Kirsten Gronbaek; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma; chronic lymphocytic leukemia; TP53 mutation; MDM2 SNP309; codon 72 polymorphism; p16INK4a methylation; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Haematology; Hematologi; Tumour biology; Tumörbiologi; Clinical Genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics; Oncology; Onkologi; Pathology; Patologi;

    Abstract : The presence of TP53 mutations has been associated with inferior outcome in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). In DLBCL, the impact of the TP53 codon 72 polymorphism and MDM2 SNP309 has not been clearly elucidated, whereas MDM2 SNP309 was suggested as a poor-prognostic marker in CLL. READ MORE

  3. 13. Stereotyped B Cell Receptors in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia : Implications for Antigen Selection in Leukemogenesis

    Author : Fiona Murray; Richard Rosenquist Brandell; Kostas Stamatopoulos; Gunilla Enblad; Gerard Tobin; Manlio Ferrarini; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chronic lymphocytic leukaemia; immunoglobulin genes; somatic hypermutation; stereotyped B cell receptors; antigen selection; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Biased immunoglobulin heavy variable (IGHV) gene usage and distinctive B-cell receptor (BCR) features have been reported in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), which may reflect clonal selection by antigens during disease development. Furthermore, the IGHV gene mutation status distinguishes two clinical entities of CLL, where patients with unmutated IGHV genes have an inferior prognosis compared to those with mutated IGHV genes. 4. 14. Solute Carriers in Metabolism : Regulation of known and putative solute carriers in the central nervous system

    Author : Emilia Lekholm; Robert Fredriksson; Helgi B. Schiöth; David Drew; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solute Carriers; transporter; amino acid starvation; glucose metabolism; MFS; SV2; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Solute carriers (SLCs) are membrane-bound transporter proteins, important for nutrient, ion, drug and metabolite transport across membranes. A quarter of the human genome codes for membrane-bound proteins, and SLCs make up the largest group of transporter proteins. READ MORE

  5. 15. B cell repertoire development in normal physiology and autoimmune disease

    Author : Åsa Andersson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; B cell repertoire; connectivity; natural antibodies; non-obese diabetic NOD ; Ig therapy; Vh7183 gene family;

    Abstract : The B cell repertoire in the neonatal immune system (IS) is characterised by reactivity towards self-components, including other immunoglobulin (Ig) V-regions. These properties have been suggested to be a requirement for the development of a normal immune system. READ MORE
