  1. 1. Probing the solar wind evolution with kinetic waves

    Author : Joan Jordi Boldú-O´Farrill Treviño; Daniel B. Graham; Herbert Gunell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; solar wind; plasma; space physics; plasma waves; kinetic theory;

    Abstract : Charged particles constantly stream outward from the Sun to fill the solar system. These particles, consisting mainly of protons and electrons, form a plasma called the solar wind. READ MORE

  2. 2. Boundary layer streaks as a novel laminar flow control method

    Author : Sohrab Sattarzadeh Shirvan; Jens H. M. Fransson; Edward B. White; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layer stability; laminar to turbulent transition; laminar flow control; drag reduction; Tollmien-Schlichting waves; oblique waves; streaky boundary layers; miniature vortex generators; discrete suction;

    Abstract : A novel laminar flow control based on generation of spanwise mean velocity gradients (SVG) in a flat plate boundary layer is investigated where disturbances of different types are introduced in the wall-bounded shear layer. The experimental investigations are aimed at; (i) generating stable and steady streamwise streaks in the boundary layer which set up spanwise gradients in the mean flow, and (ii) attenuating disturbance energy growth in the streaky boundary layers and hence delaying the onset of turbulence transition. 3. 3. Waves and rays in open billiards

    Author : Torbjörn Blomquist; John B. Delos; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Semiconductor systems where the deBroglie wavelength of the electron is comparable to the size of the system are called mesoscopic. Such systems are readily produced in laboratories, and have been studied extensively. These systems offer possibilities to study the borderline between quantum and classical physics, chaos and more. 4. 4. New Methods for Reducing Ground-Borne Noise in Buildings above Railway Tunnels

    Author : Osama A. B. Hassan; KTH; []
    Keywords : Ground-borne noise; railway noise; in-plane waves; wave-guides; scattering; propagation constant; input mobility; elastic stratum; dual integral equations;

    Abstract : The rapid expansion of major cities in the west Europeancountries has accentuated the need to exploit every potentialsite for new establishments, e.g. areas over train tunnels andnear railway tracks in general. READ MORE

  5. 5. Microwave Frequency Stability and Spin Wave Mode Structure in Nano-Contact Spin Torque Oscillators

    Author : Anders Eklund; B. Gunnar Malm; Johan Åkerman; Mikael Östling; Erik Wahlström; KTH; []
