1. Adaptive divergence in fission yeast : From experimental evolution to evolutionary genomics
Abstract : How adaptation and population differentiation occur is fundamental to understand the origin of biodiversity. Work in speciation alongside the increased ease of generating genomic data have allowed the exploration of genomic changes relevant to adaptation. READ MORE

2. Geographical Distribution of Disasters Caused by Natural Hazards in Data-scarce Areas : Methodological exploration on the Samala River catchment, Guatemala
Abstract : An increasing trend in both the number of disasters and affected people has been observed, especially during the second half of the 20th century. The physical, economic and social impact that natural hazards have had on a global scale has prompted an increasing interest of governments, international institutions and the academia. READ MORE

3. Plant-Animal Interactions and Evolution of Floral Display and Flowering Phenology in Arabidopsis lyrata
Abstract : In this thesis, I combined comparative and experimental approaches to examine selection on reproductive traits, and population differentiation in the insect-pollinated, outcrossing, perennial herb Arabidopsis lyrata. More specifically, I (1) determined whether selection on flowering phenology and floral display can be attributed to interactions with pollinators and herbivores, (2) examined whether population differentiation in flowering phenology and floral display is correlated with current selection on these traits, and (3) tested for local adaptation from contrasting environments in Europe. 4. Biomolecular Recognition Based on Field Induced Magnetic Bead Dynamics
Abstract : In this thesis, three different read-out techniques for biomolecular recognition have been studied. All three techniques rely on the change in dynamic behaviour of probe functionalised magnetic beads after binding to a biomolecular target complementary to the probe. READ MORE
