1. Multiple amyloid binding sites in Alzheimer brain and their interaction with synaptic and inflammatory mechanisms
Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia. A series of pathophyslogical changes start many years prior to the emergence of clinical symptoms. READ MORE

2. Non-equilibrium Surfaces of Metallic Thin Films
Abstract : Growth and structural characterization of metallic multilayers have been performed on the Mo/W, Mo/V and Ag/Ni systems utilizing magnetron sputtering under ultra-high-vacuum deposition conditions. Structural characterization has been performed both in situ and ex situ with several electron beam probing techniques as well as x-ray diffraction. READ MORE

3. Perturbed Renewal Equations with Non-Polynomial Perturbations
Abstract : This thesis deals with a model of nonlinearly perturbed continuous-time renewal equation with nonpolynomial perturbations. The characteristics, namely the defect and moments, of the distribution function generating the renewal equation are assumed to have expansions with respect to a non-polynomial asymptotic scale: $\{\varphi_{\nn} (\varepsilon) =\varepsilon^{\nn \cdot \w}, \nn \in \mathbf{N}_0^k\}$ as $\varepsilon \to 0$, where $\mathbf{N}_0$ is the set of non-negative integers, $\mathbf{N}_0^k \equiv \mathbf{N}_0 \times \cdots \times \mathbf{N}_0, 1\leq k . 4. Electronic structure and exchange interactions from ab initio theory : New perspectives and implementations
Abstract : In this thesis, the magnetic properties of several materials were investigated using first principle calculations. The ab initio method named real space linear muffin-tin orbitals atomic sphere approximation (RS-LMTO-ASA) was used to calculate the electronic structure and magnetic properties of bulk systems, surface and nanostructures adsorbed on surfaces. 5. Near-infrared photodetectors based on Si/SiGe nanostructures
Abstract : Two types of photodetectors containing Ge/Si quantum dots have been fabricated based on materials grown by molecular beam epitaxy and characterized with several experimental techniques. The aim was to study new device architectures with the implementation of Ge nanostructures, in order to obtain high detection efficiency in the near infrared range at room temperature. READ MORE
