  1. 6. Effects of Inflammatory Mediators on Pulmonary Airways

    Author : Ofir Bachar; Klinisk och experimentell allergiforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electric ?eld stimulation; bradykinin; airway; tumor necrosis factor a; Respiratory system; nitric oxide; Andningsorganen; Toll-like receptor; prostaglandin E2; neurotrophin; allergy;

    Abstract : Chronic inflammation is together with excessive contraction of the airways key features of asthma. The aims of the thesis were to analyze the effect of inflammatory mediators on airway smooth muscle, using an in vitro model of cultured murine airways. READ MORE

  2. 7. Kinins : important regulators in inflammation induced bone resorption

    Author : Anna Bernhold Brechter; Ulf Lerner; Hans-Erik Claesson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Bone resorption; Osteoblasts; Kinins; B1 and B2 receptors; IL-1β; TNF-α; Prostaglandin; COX-2; RANKL; Transcription factors; IL-4; IL-13; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Inflammatory processes in, or in close vicinity of, the skeleton often lead to loss of bone tissue. Different cytokines have been shown to be involved as stimulators of inflammatory induced osteoclastic bone resorption. READ MORE

  3. 8. The Role of Membrane Trafficking in G Protein-Coupled Receptor Regulation

    Author : Johan Enquist; Drug Target Discovery; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; downregulation; recycling; resensitization; desensitization; GPCR; membrane trafficking;

    Abstract : Movements of a receptor in the plasma membrane and within the cell influence receptor function and physiology. I have investigated the role of such movements, generally known as membrane trafficking, in G protein-coupled receptor regulation. READ MORE

  4. 9. Transforming growth factor-ß. Signal regulation in health and disease

    Author : Urban Molander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : TGF-b; BMP; Smad; signal transduction; LDL; skin tumour; mesangial;

    Abstract : TGF-b superfamily members have been shown to play a pivotal role in multicellular organisms. Knowledge about signal transduction pathways is important in order to understand and cure diseases like cancer where TGF-b´s growth inhibitory signal often are disenabled via mutated or absent signalling components. 5. 10. No guts, no glory : EphB mediated signaling in intestinal stem and progenitor cells

    Author : Maria Genander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is focused on the intestinal stem cell niche, the crypts, and the Eph tyrosine kinase receptors together with their ligands that are expressed by the crypt epithelial progenitor cells. Two fundamental cellular processes, high turnover coupled to a rapid ordered migration of the newborn cells out from the crypt, characterize the normal intestine. READ MORE
