  1. 1. Translational regulation of genes in salmonella typhimurium by vitamin B12

    Author : Solveig Ravnum; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Transational Control; Salmonella typhimurium; Vitamin B12; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : In this thesis I have studied the mechanism by which vitamin B12 regulates the expression of the cob operon and the btuB gene in Salmonella typhimurium. The cob operon encodes most of the 25 genes required for the de novo synthesis of vitamin B12, and the butB gene encodes the outer membrane protein needed for transport of exogenous vitamin B12 into the cell. 2. 2. Urologic and metabolic consequences of continent urostomy (Kock reservoir) in children and adolescents

    Author : Gamal Abd El-Gawad; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Urinary diversion; Continent ileal urostomy; Kock pouch; Complication; Enterocystography; Enterocystometry; Urography; B12; Folic acid; MMA; Quality of life.;

    Abstract : During the last decades, urinary diversion using an intestinal segment has been commonly used in children and adolescents. Kock pouch is a feasible alternative for the children in need of a continent diversion where other alternatives such as Mitrofanoff are excluded for various reasons. READ MORE

  3. 3. Theoretical aspects of tetrapyrrole biochemistry

    Author : Kasper Jensen; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Proteiner; enzymologi; Theoretical chemistry; quantum chemistry; Teoretisk kemi; kvantkemi; enzymology; Proteins; protein; enzyme; density functional; Heme; B12;

    Abstract : Modern theoretical simulations are able to provide significant insight into biochemical problems on a scale which continues to expand. With the aid of computer power and the sophisticated programs of researchers in the field, we have addressed a series of problems related to the so-called tetrapyrrole cofactors found in all living organisms. 4. 4. Vitamin B12 and folate depletion in the elderly. Diagnosis, clinical correlates and causes

    Author : Catharina Lewerin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aged; methylmalonic acid; homocysteine; vitamin B12; folic acid; renal function; cognition; movement; atrophic gastritis;

    Abstract : Subclinical vitamin B12 and folate deficiency is common in the elderly. The clinical significance remains unresolved. There is not a universally accepted set of laboratory criteria for diagnosis, however subclinical deficiency is important to diagnose since it is easy to treat. READ MORE

  5. 5. Urinary diversion by the Kock ileal reservoir. Studies on clinical outcome, quality of life, bile acid and vitamin B12 metabolism

    Author : Gunnar Olofsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kock reservoir; urinary diversion; quality of life; bile acids; vitamin B12;

    Abstract : Introduction: Urinary diversion with the Kock ileal reservoir has been performed at Sahlgrenska University Hospital since 1975. One key question is the long-term consequences regarding glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and quality of life of this kind of surgery. Other important topics are the consequences due to loss of ileum. READ MORE
