  1. 1. People of the Dolmens and Stone Cists : An archaeogenetic Investigation of Megalithic Graves from the Neolithic Period on Gotland

    Author : Magdalena Fraser; Kjel Knutsson; Mattias Jakobsson; Paul Wallin; Anders Götherström; Per Åke Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; archaeology; aDNA; ancient genomics; archaeogenetics; mtDNA; osteology; radiocarbon dating; Strontium; Carbon; Nitrogen; TRB; PWC; BAC; CWC; dolmen; stone cist; population demography; diet; mobility; cultural duality; admixture; kinship; Neolithic period; Early Bronze Age; Europe; Baltic Sea area; Scandinavia; Gotland; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : The study of ancient genomics of pre-historic human remains has in recent years offered unprecedented knowledge regarding pre-historic migration and population structure on the European continent which has fundamentally altered the current views in the archaeological community. However, the merging of the two fields, archaeology and genetics, is still in its infancy and much work is still needed in order for these fields to integrate. READ MORE

  2. 2. Strain- and bioprocess-design strategies to increase production of (R)-3-hydroxybutyrate by Escherichia coli

    Author : Mónica Guevara-Martínez; Gen Larsson; Antonius J. A. van Maris; Pau Ferrer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; E. coli; R -3-hydroxybutyrate; metabolic engineering; bioprocess design; NADPH; acetic acid; thioesterase; BAC; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Microbial bio-based processes have emerged as an alternative to replace fossil-based processes for the production of fuels and chemicals. (R)-3-hydroxybutyrate (3HB) is a medium-value chemical that has gained special attention as a precursor of antibiotics and vitamins, as a monomer for the synthesis of tailor-made polyesters and as a nutritional source for eukaryotic cells. 3. 3. Functional Aspects of Peripheral and Spinal Cord Neurons Involved in Itch and Pain

    Author : Bejan Aresh; Malin Lagerström; Klas Kullander; Martin Schmelz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : mGluR7; anaphylaxis; Grpr; Penk; Pdyn; Cre line; BAC cloning; spinal cord; transgenic line; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : We have investigated the role of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGluR7) and the gastrin releasing peptide receptor (Grpr) population that are involved at different levels of itch transmission. We found that mGuR7 deficient mice displayed an anaphylaxis-like behavior when provoked with histamine. READ MORE

  4. 4. Genome mapping of the horse

    Author : Gabriella Lindgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Horse; microsatellites; linkage analysis; FISH; Type I markers; BAc library; Y chromosome; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Evolutionary Genetics; evolutionär genetik;

    Abstract : Our ability to map and sequence whole genomes is one of the most important developments in biological science. It will provide us with an unprecedented insight into the genetic background of phenotypic traits, such as disease resistance, reproduction and growth and also makes it feasible to study the processes of genome evolution. 5. 5. Characterization of human dopaminergic neurons in the developing mesencephalon and upon differentiation of stem cells- for replacement therapy in Parkinson´s disease

    Author : Jenny Nelander Wahlestedt; Utvecklings- och regenerativ neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson´s disease; stem cells; ventral mesencephalon; dopaminergic neurons; cell replacement therapy; human fetal tissue; radial glia; microRNA; BAC recombineering; reporter cell lines;

    Abstract : Cell-replacement therapy is a promising approach for treating patients with Parkinson ́s disease (PD). For this purpose, there is a need for developing a protocol that can generate high numbers of human transplantable mesencephalic dopaminer- gic (mesDA) neurons. READ MORE
