  1. 1. Bronchoalveolar lavage and serum protein patterns in healthy individuals and sarcoidosis patients : a proteomics approach

    Author : Fariba Sabounchi Schütt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Sarcoidosis; BALF; serum; proteomics; 2-D electrophoresis; protein-spot pattern; protein identification;

    Abstract : The etiology of sarcoidosis remains unknown. Although biochemical changes are frequently observed in sarcoidosis, the problem of finding distinct biomarkers remains. Only a few markers are defined in this disease. READ MORE

  2. 2. Sarcoidosis : inflammatory mechanisms and markers of activity

    Author : Anders Planck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Sarcoidosis; HLA class II; T-lymphocytes; CD4-CD8 ratio; T cell receptor; angiotensin-converting enzyme; apoptosis;

    Abstract : Sarcoidosis is a disease characterized by an accumulation of CD4+ T-lymphocytes in affected organs. Previous findings of an association between the HLA-allele DR17 and an accumulation in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of CD4+ T-lymphocytes expressing the T-cell receptor (TCR) V gene segment AV2S3, is in line with an aetiological hypothesis claiming that sarcoidosis is elicited by a specific antigen(s) in genetically predisposed individuals. 3. 3. Sarcoidosis : expression of cell regulatory markers and the influence of patient phenotype on bronchoalveolar lavage cell differential counts

    Author : Muntasir Abo Al Hayja; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Sarcoidosis is a systemic inflammatory disease that can affect almost any organ, but the respiratory system is affected in more than 90% of the cases. To elicit an immune response, an antigen(s) is processed by antigen-presenting cells (APCs), e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Immunocompromised Patients. Infections, Diagnostics and Nosocomial Transmission

    Author : Anna Stjärne Asplund; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to improve the management of infections in immunocompromised patients by studying aspects of diagnostics, epidemiology and nosocomial transmission. Infection and rejection are common complications in lung-transplant patients, and early diagnosis and treatment are important for a positive outcome. READ MORE

  5. 5. Immune responses in defined subgroups of patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis

    Author : Farah Idali; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Sarcoidosis; Löfgren s syndrome; cytokine; regulatory T cell; TIM molecule; TLR;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on inflammatory responses in the airways of sarcoidosis patients. Sarcoidosis is a T helper 1-mediated inflammatory disease with unknown aetiology. HLA-DRB1*0301pos sarcoidosis patients often present with an acute form of disease, i.e. READ MORE
