1. Critical loads - assessment of uncertainty
Abstract : The effects of data uncertainty in applications of the critical loads concept were investigated on different spatial resolutions in Sweden and northern Czech Republic. Critical loads of acidity (CL) were calculated for Sweden using the biogeochemical model PROFILE. READ MORE

2. Aspects of fatigue life in thermal barrier coatings
Abstract : Thermal barrier coatings (TBC) are applied on hot components in airborne and land-based gas turbines when higher turbine inlet temperature, meaning better thermal efficiency, is desired. The TBC is mainly applied to protect underlying material from high temperatures, but also serves as a protection from the aggressive corrosive environment. READ MORE

3. Mechanical and swelling properties of hydrogels
Abstract : Hydrogels have been used as one of the novel soft materials in many biomedical applications such as drug delivery and tissue engineering for recent decades. In the main part of this work, bi-functional poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) precursors with either thiols (PEG-SH) or allyls (PEG-Al) , covering molecular weights from 3 kDa to 8 kDa were synthesized and thoroughly characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-Raman and MALDI-TOF techniques. 4. Multiparameter flow cytometry and minimal residual disease in patients with acute leukemia
Abstract : The investigation of minimal residual disease (MRD) with multiparameter flow cytometry (FC) immunophenotyping has proven to be a powerful approach for disease monitoring in patients with acute leukemia (AL). This technique mainly relies on the identification of minor leukemic cell populations that can be discriminated from their normal counterparts on the basis of phenotypic aberrancies observed at diagnosis. 5. Density Functional Theory in Computational Materials Science
Abstract : The present thesis is concerned to the application of first-principles self-consistent total-energy calculations within the density functional theory on different topics in materials science. Crystallographic phase-transitions under high-pressure has been study for TiO2, FeI2, Fe3O4, Ti, the heavy alkali metals Cs and Rb, and C3N4. READ MORE
