  1. 1. Molecular Genetic Studies of Ph-positive Leukemias and the BCR and ABL Genes

    Author : Thoas Fioretos; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CRKL; CRK; ABL; BCR; acute lymphoid leukemia; chronic myeloid leukemia; Philadelphia chromosome; Molecular Genetics; Cytogenetics; IFN-alfa; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : In the present thesis molecular genetic methods were used to address different biological and clinical aspects of Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome-positive leukemias and the BCR and ABL genes. In the first study, children with Ph-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) were found to have essentially the same breakpoint locations in BCR as adults, a pattern which differs from the one seen in Ph-positive acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL). 2. 2. Molecular and functional studies of the BCR/ABL1 fusion gene

    Author : Petra Johnels; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; Haematology; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; gene expression profiling; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; chronic myeloid leukemia; Ph chromosome; BCR ABL; extracellulära vätskor; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cancer;

    Abstract : The BCR/ABL1 fusion gene is associated with chronic myeloid leukemia and a subgroup of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The general aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of BCR/ABL1-induced leukemogenesis by molecular and functional studies of this fusion gene. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mucins, Cystic Fibrosis and PDZ protein interactions

    Author : Emily Malmberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mucin; PDZ; transmembrane; MUC1; Cystic Fibrosis; clathrin; CFTR; PDZK1; Bcr; endocytosis; MUC17;

    Abstract : Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is caused and characterized by mutations in the Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane conductance Regulator (CFTR) gene. The dominating feature of the disease is mucus accumulation on mucosal surfaces, but no direct functional connection between mucus and CFTR is known. READ MORE

  4. 4. Molecular Monitoring of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Treated with Imatinib Mesylate

    Author : Yuan Wei; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : CML; imatinib; BCR-ABL; apoptosis; mutation; T-lymphocyte;

    Abstract : The BCR-ABL fusion gene product is a constitutively activated tyrosine kinase, which is fundamental in the pathogenesis of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Imatinib mesylate (imatinib, Glivec® or Gleevec®), a small molecule inhibitor of the BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase, is now the first-line treatment for all newly diagnosed chronic phase CML patients. 5. 5. The Wilms' tumor gene 1 (WT1) and leukemia -new insights and further complexity

    Author : Emelie Svensson; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; onkologi; cancer; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Cofilin 1; NDRG2; IRF-8; BCR ABL1; hematopoiesis; Wilms´ tumor gene 1; leukemia;

    Abstract : The Wilms tumor gene 1 (WT1) encodes a zinc-finger containing transcription factor which is highly expressed in immature hematopoietic progenitor cells. A high expression of WT1 and the presence of somatic mutations in acute leukemia indicate a role for WT1 in the pathogenesis of leukemia. READ MORE
