  1. 1. Neurological consequences of cardiac arrest

    Author : Hans Rosén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : cardiac arrest; prognosis; S-100; NSE; Neurofilament light protein; FIM; BNIS;

    Abstract : An out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is a life-threatening event with very high early mortality. More than 50% of the patients who reach the emergency ward die, showing clinical signs of brain damage during the first weeks after admission. Survivors may suffer from post-ischemic encephalopathy, which influences their future lives. READ MORE

  2. 2. Screening of cognitive functions. Evaluation of methods and their applicability in neurological rehabilitation

    Author : Caisa Hofgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : cognition; cognitive screening; ADL; stroke; brain damage; ICF; return to work;

    Abstract : Screening of cognitive functions Evaluation of methods and their applicability in neurological rehabilitation Caisa Hofgren, Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology/Rehabilitation Medicine, The Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Göteborg, SWEDEN Abstract Assessment of cognitive functions is of great importance in neurological clinical settings as well as in rehabilitation. A cognitive screening test is short and comprehensive and can be used in various situations. READ MORE

  3. 3. Pituitary dysfunction and relation to cognitive and global outcome after traumatic brain injury or aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage

    Author : Anna Tölli; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (aSAH) are leading causes of deaths and may cause permanent physical, cognitive, behavioural, and psychosocial disabilities limiting daily activities in survivors. One potential complication of TBI and aSAH is deficient secretion of one or more pituitary hormones. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ischemic Stroke Outcomes - Analyses of Protein and Genetic Biomarkers

    Author : Annie Pedersen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stroke; Prognosis; Biomarkers; Genetics; Genome-Wide Association Study;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to identify novel biomarkers for ischemic stroke outcomes. The specific aims were to test the hypotheses that circulating concentrations of hemostatic biomarkers predict the long-term post-stroke risk of recurrent vascular events/death (paper I) and/or cognitive impairment (paper II) and that circulating concentrations of a marker of neuronal damage (neurofilament light chain, NfL) predict post-stroke functional and neurological outcomes (paper III) as well as to identify genetic variants associated with post-stroke functional outcome through a genome wide association study (GWAS) approach (paper IV). 5. 5. Severe traumatic brain injury : clinical course and prognostic factors

    Author : Maud Stenberg; Britt-Marie Stålnacke; Richard Levi; Jan Lexell; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Severe traumatic brain injury; outcome; rehabilitation; prognosis; rehabiliteringsmedicin; Rehabilitation Medicine;

    Abstract : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) constitutes a major health problem and is a leading cause of long-term disability and death. Patients with severe traumatic brain injury, S-TBI, comprise a heterogeneous group with varying complexity and prognosis. READ MORE
