  1. 1. Development and applications of NMR relaxation methods to study protein and ligand dynamics

    Author : Sven Wernersson; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear magnetic resonance; NMR; NMR relaxation; Method development; Protein dynamics; BRD4; Galectin 3; Kärnmagnetisk resonansspektroskopi; proteindynamik; Metodutveckling; NMR; BRD4; Galektin 3;

    Abstract : This thesis involves the study of proteins. These molecules exist in many variants, and perform most of our bodily functions. This includes signaling (for example the presence of capsaicin, which makes food spicy), molecular transport (including oxygen), catalysis (including food digestion) and part of our body structure (such as muscles). 2. 2. FET fusion oncoproteins in sarcoma tumorigenesis - lnteractions with the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex and epigenetic effects

    Author : Malin Lindén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ewing sarcoma; Epigenetics; FET fusion oncoproteins; Myxoid liposarcoma; Proteomics; SWI SNF BAF chromatin remodeling complex;

    Abstract : The FET family of fusion oncoproteins containing the N-terminal of either FUS, EWSR1 or TAF15 together with a transcription factor partner is the characteristic oncogenic driver of more than 20 types of sarcoma and leukemia, including myxoid liposarcoma and Ewing sarcoma. The FET oncoproteins are thought to function as aberrant transcription factors, however, the exact oncogenic mechanism remains to be elucidated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Inflammation and host-microbe signaling in the development and progression of colorectal carcinoma

    Author : Yinghui Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Gut microbiota play an integral role in the postnatal development and maturation of the intestinal epithelium as well as the innate and adaptive immune system. Gut microbes communicate to the host via pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) which regulate intestinal homeostasis during health and disease. READ MORE

  4. 4. Interaction of the genome maintenance proteins of oncogeneic herpesviruses with cellular chromatin

    Author : Muhammad Nouman Mughal; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) nuclear antigen (EBNA)-1 is the only viral protein expressed in all virus-infected cells and EBV-associated malignancies. Similar to the genome maintenance proteins (GMPs) of other gamma-herpesviruses, EBNA1 binds to both viral and cellular DNA and controls the replication and transcription of the viral genome. 5. 5. Analysis and characterization of chemo- and radiation therapy sensitizing strategies in tumours with focus on effects of phenothiazines on DNA damage response signalling

    Author : Katarzyna Zielinska-Chomej; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cancer is, despite rapid progress in development of new targeted therapies, still mainly treated with surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. The last two mentioned conventional therapies often meet general obstacles such as normal cell toxicity and tumour cell resistance. READ MORE
