  1. 1. Levels of brominated flame retardants in humans and their environment : occupational and home exposure

    Author : Marie Karlsson; Bert van Bavel; Bo Strandberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PBDE; BTBPE; DeBDethane; plasma; air; dust; Northern fulmar; egg; household; occupational exposure; Chemistry; Kemi; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Plasma from workers at an electronic dismantling plant were analysed for tri- to heptaBDEs (brominated diphenyl ethers), during 18 months. The different exposed groups showed concentrations ranging from 0.06to 2.8 ng g-1 (l. READ MORE

  2. 2. Exposure to brominated flame retardants in electronics recycling : air and human plasma levels

    Author : Anneli Julander; Magnus Engwall; Bert van Bavel; Myrto Petreas; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PBDE; BTBPE; DeBDethane; Thyroid hormone; Occupational exposure; Human plasma; Air sampling; MeO-PBDE; PBDE; BTBPE; DeBDetan; Sköldkörtelhormon; Yrkesexponering; Human plasma; Luftprovtagning; MeO-PBDE; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), 1,2-bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)ethane (BTBPE) and 1,2-bis(2,3,4,5,6-pentabromophenyl)ethane (DeBDethane) were analysed in air and blood samples from workers at an electronics recycling facility. The samples were collected regularly for 18 months and were analysed by isomer specific GC/MS analysis in both electron impact (EI) and negative chemical ionisation (NCI) mode. READ MORE

  3. 3. Organohalogen contaminants in Greenland shark (Somniosus microcephalus)

    Author : Anna Strid; Åke Bergman; Maria Athanasiadou; Shinsuke Tanabe; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; persistent organic pollutants; sub-Arctic; Iceland; shark; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Abstract : The remote sub-Arctic/Arctic environment has due to human activities become a sink for organohalogen contaminants (OHCs). These OHC include traditional contaminants such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), DDTs and technical mixtures of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), all included in the Stockholm Convention list of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). 4. 4. Legacy persistent organic pollutants and chemicals of emerging concern in Sweden : from indoor environments to remote areas

    Author : Seth Newton; Cynthia de Wit; Ulla Sellström; Per Larsson; Annika Jahnke; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; persistent organic pollutants; atmospheric deposition; arctic; flame retardant; POP; long range transport; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Abstract : Bulk atmospheric deposition samples were taken every two months for a year in 2009-2010 at two sites in northern Sweden and analyzed for a suite of legacy and emerging persistent organic chemicals including legacy organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs)  and novel flame retardants (NFRs).  To further investigate the urban occurrence and contribution to remote contamination of flame retardants, indoor air, ventilation system air, and dust were sampled in several microenvironments in Stockholm during the winter of 2012 for analysis of PBDEs, isomer-specific hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD), and NFRs. 5. 5. Occupational and dietary exposure to organohalogen substances, with special emphasis on polybrominated diphenyl ethers

    Author : Andreas Sjödin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental Chemistry; miljökemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is aimed at widening the current knowledge base about human exposure to brominated flame retardants (BFRs), particularly polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA). Data on exposures to some of the traditional organohalogen substances (OHS) have been included for comparative reasons. READ MORE
