  1. 1. NMR Studies of Bacterial Albumin-Binding Modules

    Author : Maria U Johansson; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Physical chemistry; three-helix bundle; protein structure; protein PAB; protein-protein interactions; protein G; protein dynamics; NMR; module shuffling; GA module; evolution; albumin-binding; bacterial surface proteins;

    Abstract : Peptostreptococcus magnus and group C/G streptococci are Gram-positive cocci that are part of the normal flora and reside in more or less the same locations in the host. Protein G of group C/G streptococci was originally described as binding IgGFc of several species and later shown to also bind human serum albumin and albumins from various animal species. READ MORE

  2. 2. Synthesis and investigation of bacterial effector molecules

    Author : Michael Franz Albers; Christian Hedberg; Christian Hackenberger; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bacterial effectors; organic synthesis; Legionella; PTM; peptide synthesis; nucleotide chemistry; Biorganic Chemistry; bioorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : During infections, bacterial microorganisms initiate profound interactions with mammalian host cells. Usually defense mechanisms of the host destroy intruding bacteria in rapid manner. However, many bacterial pathogens have evolved in a way to avoid these mechanisms. READ MORE

  3. 3. Analysis of drugs and proteins in biological matrices, using different types of sample preparations and mass spectrometry

    Author : Aljona Saleh; Ingrid Granelli; Jonas Bergquist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioanalysis; drugs; proteins; liquid chromatography; two-dimensional liquid chromatography; mass spectrometry; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes bioanalysis of small and large molecules in biological matrices and includes screening of illegal drugs in urine with high resolution mass spectrometer, bioanalysis of MTH1 inhibitors in mice plasma and quantification of proteins in plasma and cell lysates.Screening of illegal drugs was based on high resolving power mass spectrometer (QTOF) and the results were compared to immunoassays. 4. 4. Development and Evaluation of Tools to Explore Posttranslational HexNAc-Tyrosine and Mucin-Type O-Glycosylation

    Author : Sandra Behren; Ulrika Westerlind; Mikael Elofsson; Carmen Galan; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glycopeptides; mucins; mucin type-O-glycosylation; microarrays; tyrosine-O-HexNAcylation; lectins; MUC1 cancer vaccines; TcdA; LecB; galectins; LacdiNAc; antibodies; biologisk kemi; biological chemistry; Biorganic Chemistry; bioorganisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : Glycosylation is the most abundant form of post-translational modification (PTM). Recently, O-glycosylation attracted much attention in the glycoproteomic field due to its association with various diseases, such as pathogenic infections and cancer. READ MORE

  5. 5. Chemical attenuation of bacterial virulence : small molecule inhibitors of type III secretion

    Author : Anna Kauppi; Mikael Elofsson; Anders Karlén; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; antibiotic resistance; virulence; type III secretion; T3SS inhibitors; Yop; SMD; QSAR; screening; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Despite the large arsenal of antibiotics available on the market, treatment of bacterial infections becomes more challenging in view of the fact that microbes develop resistance against existing drugs. There is an obvious need for novel drugs acting on both old and new targets in bacteria. READ MORE
