  1. 21. Studies on Thiol-Disulfide Oxidoreductases in Bacillus subtilis

    Author : Mirja Carlsson Möller; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; bacterial sporulation; endospore; thioredoxin; Thiol-disulfide oxidoreductase;

    Abstract : Bacillus subtilis is a model organism for endospore-forming gram-positive bacteria. Endospores are formed in response to nutrient starvation. They can resist harsh environments and last for long periods of time. Once nutrients again become available, the endospore can germinate and the vegetative life cycle be resumed. READ MORE

  2. 22. Plasminogen and protein PAM: Interactions between streptococcal surface proteins and the human fibrinolytic system

    Author : Annika Carlsson Wistedt; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacteriology; Microbiology; M protein; streptokinase; kringles; plasmin; Streptococcus pyogenes; plasminogen; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Pathogenic bacteria often produce potent proteases capable of destroying host tissue thereby providing the bacteria with tools for spreading and nutrient access. This thesis describes how group A, C and G streptococci can acquire surface bound protease activity through an alternative mechanism, namely by binding and activation of the human protease precursor plasminogen. 3. 23. Laccases and Oxalate-Degrading Enzymes Heterologous Expression and Novel Applications in Lignocellulose Processing

    Author : Pierre Cassland; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; virologi; mykologi; bacteriology; Microbiology; Lignocellulose Processing; Heterologous expression; Laccases; Oxalate-Degrading Enzymes; bakteriologi;

    Abstract : Lignocellulose constitutes a vast renewable resource for the production of, for example, paper and bioethanol. The potential of using laccase and oxalate-degrading enzymes in novel applications for the processing of lignocellulose was investigated in this work. READ MORE

  4. 24. Temperature-dependent structure and function of group A streptococcal M proteins

    Author : Tommy Cedervall; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; plasma protein; fibrinogen; temperature; hydrophobicity; coiled-coil; Ig-binding; M protein; group A streptococcus; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Temperature-dependent structure and function of group A streptococcal M proteins.This thesis describes the temperature-dependent structure of the members in the group A streptococcal M protein family. M proteins are cell-surface proteins that are important for the bacterial virulence and bind to a diverse set of human plasma proteins. READ MORE

  5. 25. Genetic Engineering of Industrial Micro-organisms - Casein hydrolysis by the lactic acid bacteria Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris and Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Xylose fermentation by the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Camilla Christensson; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bacteriology; Microbiology; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; virology; mycology; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : Micro-organisms are used industrially by humans, to improve production, either qualitatively or quantitatively, and to enhance profit or value. In cheese production, the starter bacteria hydrolyse casein degradation products generated by rennet. READ MORE
