  1. 1. Electrical Characterisations of Bearings

    Author : Abhishek Joshi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ball bearing; Equivalent circuit model; Lubricants; Bearing Capacitance; Spherical bearing; Mechanical bearing; Bearing currents; Electrical conduction; Electrical characterisation;

    Abstract : Mechanical bearings are an integral part of industry, and are used in various places in order to reduce friction between two interacting surfaces and are used to transmit power and loads. Mechanical bearings are one of the most extensively used components within the wind industry, but on the other hand they are also one of the most dominantly failing failed components. READ MORE

  2. 2. Design and analysis of a novel low loss homopolar electrodynamic bearing

    Author : Torbjörn A. Lembke; Chandur Sadarangani; Hannes Bleuler; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical engineering; Homopolar bearing; Electrodynamic bearing; Induction bearing; Elektroteknik; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : A novel homopolar electrodynamic bearing, together with a suitable permanent magnet drive, have been developed for high-speed applications where low losses and high reliability are essential and exclude the use of ball bearings, and yet where active magnetic bearings offer a too complex system solution. Considered applications are small turbomolecular vacuum pumps, and maintenance free flywheels for energy storage in remote telecom and satellite systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. On Surface Topography of Steel Sheet for Car Bodies

    Author : Magnus Jonasson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; paint appearance; forming; steel sheet; bearing area; 3D surface roughness; area parameters; ball filter; friction; surface topography;

    Abstract : This thesis is a contribution to the scientific area of surface topography on sheet metal surfaces. The studies are restricted to exploring the influence of the steel sheet,s surface topography on forming properties and on appearance after painting. READ MORE

  4. 4. Properties of oil and refrigerant mixtures : lubrication of ball bearings in refrigeration compressors

    Author : Roger Tuomas; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machine Elements; Maskinelement;

    Abstract : A refrigeration compressor contains highly loaded mechanical contacts that have to be lubricated. The lubricant used in refrigeration compressors consists of an oil and refrigerant mixture, and the refrigerant concentration can be up to 40 wt%. READ MORE

  5. 5. Some aspects of convection as well as graphite and carbide formations during casting

    Author : Fareed Ashraf Khan; Michael Vynnycky; Pär Jönsson; Bo Rogberg; Hasse Fredriksson; Jessica Elfsberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbides; heat treatment; cast iron; ball bearing steel; casting; cooling rate; structure analysis; nodule distribution; melt stirring; nuclei; karbider; värmebehanding; gjutjärn; kullagerstål; gjutning; kylningshastighet; strukturanalys; nodulefördelning; smältrörelse; kärnor.; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Abstract : It is an established fact that segregation during casting affects the physical properties of carbon-based ferro alloys; this motivates the study of the segregation behaviour of carbon and carbide-forming solute elements. In this context, this thesis investigates two different situations: the effects of cooling rate and turbulence on the precipitation behaviour of the graphite nodules in nodular cast iron; the nature of carbide precipitation in a bearing steel grade and the effects of subsequent soaking on these carbides.
